WHY CHOOSE ROBOTIC SURGERY? I did this patient’s Robotic surgery of a large pelvic mass. Looking at her abdomen, would you ever have guessed she underwent a major surgery to take out a huge tumor? Even the patient herself struggles to look for her scars!!!

ALL ABOUT THE ROBOTIC SURGEON’s CONSOLE. The surgeon’s console is one of the game-changing components of the Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System. It allows the surgeon to sit ergonomically while performing the most complicated surgeries inside the patient’s abdomen. With finger controls using the joysticks, all the instruments necessary to perform the surgery are controlled by the surgeon al at once, including the camera. The surgeon can even be in another room, another city and even in another country. This phenomenon is called TELEPRESENCE, where the surgeon is remote from the patient’s location. The stereo viewer allows the surgeon to see what the camera captures intra-abdominally. Since there is a left and right camera for each eye, the image is seen in 3D allowing for depth perception and visual accuracy. The joysticks with the finger loops provide motion scaling not only to reduce tremors but to convert of the surgeon’s large hand movements into smaller movements of the surgical instruments in the operative field. This makes precision surgery absolutely possible. The Da Vinci robot has truly leveled up the way we perform surgery and the ease by which patients can recover after a major intervention. . https://seriousmd.com/doc/rsingson

BREAKING NEWS DURING TGE ROBOTICS CONGRESS IN SINGAPORE. One of the most exciting announcements during the lunch symposium at the Asian Summit of Robotics Surgery was that from Device Technologies, the Australian company distributing the Da Vinci robot, that they have finally decided to sell the Da Vinci XI to the Philippine market! This came at the nick of time since we were worrying how to upgrade our 13-year old Da Vinci SI which is approaching obsolescence in 2-3 years! This new XI model is a game changer in terms of ease of docking, easy access to all 4 quadrants of the abdomen with just a flick of the boom, modular format to increase the surgical workspace, thinner arms and longer instruments to enable simpler port placement from case to case, a smaller camera that allows it to be placed in any of the ports (known as port-hopping capability). The advanced bipolar systems allow ligation of larger blood vessels more efficiently. The Da Vinci XI just levels up the possibilities for minimally invasive surgery to enable more precise robotic surgery with faster speed. https://www.rebeccasingsonmd.com/

11 YEARS INFERTILE, 4 MYOMAS REMOVED. She was living abroad and wanted IVF. But the fertility doctors said that because of her multiple big myomas, they would have to remove her uterus and she would have to go through surrogacy. She rejected the idea and instead, flew back to Manila to have her Robotic Multiple Myomectomies. We successfully removed 4 myomas, reconstructed her uterus. She can undergo IVF after 9 mos when her uterine incisions have healed. She flew back 4 days after surgery. https://www.rebeccasingsonmd.com/

SHE WAS AFRAID IT MIGHT BE UTERINE CANCER. After she had abnormal bleeding, she wanted the surgery immediately since she was afraid it might be cancerous. Three ultrasound results said the blood flow showed the mass was benign. But the MRI could not commit outright that it was benign so her fear grew the more. . https://www.rebeccasingsonmd.com/

ROBOTIC SURGERY FOR CANCER OF THE UTERUS. This 55 year old flew in for Robotic hysterectomy. She toyed with delaying her cancer surgery since her daughter is getting married on July 2. But luckily, she prioritized her surgery since I assured her she a minimally invasive cancer surgery will enable her to make it to her daughter’s wedding. She can go home tomorrow and fly back to her home a week from surgery.

HOW TO REMOVE A 20cm MYOMA WEIGHING 7.7lbs WITH ROBOTIC SURGERY. This 53-yr old woman had profuse bleeding from her giant myoma. Her Hb was down to 7.6. We performed a robotic-assisted hysterectomy with minimal blood loss and only one unit of blood was transfused. Her incisions are tiny compared to the mass that was removed. .beckysingson
