Republic Act (RA) 12232, signed by the President on Wednesday, on Aug. 13, postponing this year’s Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to November 2026

According to Marcos, the BARMM parliament polls are “so important,” saying their failure would compromise the ongoing peace process.

MMDA cancels odd-even scheme

Following President Marcos’ decision to put the EDSA rehabilitation on hold, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced yesterday the cancellation of the planned odd-even traffic scheme.

The traffic plan was initially designed to help manage congestion during the proposed two-year rehabilitation of EDSA. However, with the project’s suspension, the MMDA is reassessing its approach.

“Pursuant to the directive of the President, the MMDA will suspend the imposition of the odd-even scheme, which was part of the traffic management plan that was laid down intended to decongest EDSA before the looming rebuild,” MMDA Chairman Don Artes said.

“The postponement will give us time to look for other traffic mitigating options for the EDSA rebuild, which will be less burdensome to motorists and the commuting public,” Artes added.

Marcos earlier cited the need to “find better ways” to minimize the impact on commuters before proceeding with any major roadwork along Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfare.

In the meantime, the MMDA confirmed that the existing number coding scheme will remain in effect across Metro Manila.

National Flag Day commemorates the first time the Philippine flag was unfurled in battle on May 28, 1898, after Filipino forces defeated Spanish troops in the Battle of Alapan in Imus, Cavite. This event signified the beginning of Filipino resistance against Spanish colonization and the birth of the Philippine Republic.

On March 6, 1965, Presidential Proclamation No. 374 was issued declaring May 28 as National Flag Day.

On May 23, 1994, Executive Order No. 179 was issued extending the period of celebrating National Flag Day from May 28 to June 12.

The flag should be displayed with respect and dignity, following proper protocols outlined in the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines (Republic Act No. 8491).

National Flag Day reminds Filipinos of the sacrifices made for independence and the unifying power of the national symbol. It’s a call to honor heritage, remember history, and celebrate national identity.
