Clinicians sometimes make costly mistakes, leading to thousands of patient deaths or disabilities annually in the US, with a significant financial impact on healthcare. Cleveland Clinic addresses this through telehealth, particularly its virtual second opinions program, saving about $8,705 per patient by avoiding unnecessary treatments. The program, accessible globally, provides patients with complex diagnoses a chance to confirm their diagnosis and treatment plan through virtual consultations with Cleveland Clinic specialists. These specialists often suggest changes in diagnosis or treatment, leading to significant reductions in unnecessary surgeries and hospitalizations. The program aims to provide world-class medical expertise regardless of geographic location, typically covered by insurance but available to those without coverage for a fee.

The US FDA allows yogurt makers to claim their product may prevent Type 2 diabetes, citing limited evidence. Dr. Frank Hu, a professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, acknowledges yogurt's potential as a nutrient-rich food that could lower the risk, but others doubt the evidence's strength. Studies show mixed results: some suggest a lower risk with higher yogurt consumption, while others don't. Despite uncertainties, Hu points out yogurt's nutritional benefits, including live bacteria that may reduce inflammation and insulin resistance. He stresses the importance of maintaining a healthy weight and balanced diet, while advising against foods like sugary beverages and processed meats, which increase diabetes risk.
