Ahead of the annual institutional gathering, the Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC), through the Public Health Department (PHD)-Health Education and Promotion Office and the DRMC Events Committee, successfully celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) alongside the National Health Emergency Preparedness Day on December 17, 2025, at the DRMC Gymnasium. The event highlighted the institutionโs commitment to inclusive healthcare for persons with disabilities and disaster readiness.
The two-part activity, titled 4th Quarter Health Advocacy Program, gathered hospital employees for a day filled with informative discussions, interactive activities, and demonstrations aimed at strengthening awareness and collaboration.
The celebration underscored the importance of creating a healthcare system that is accessible and responsive to the needs of persons with disabilities. Speakers Mr. Ricardo Biag, Jr., PWD Welfare Program Focal Person, and Dr. Mary Ellen Lacia, PWD Program Manager, emphasized that inclusivity is not only a social responsibility but also a critical component of effective healthcare delivery.
In line with the observance of the National Health Emergency Preparedness Day, the Health Emergency and Disaster Management Unit, through Dr. Kristi Anjelo Bayotas and Ms. Michelle Kaye Petallana-Damalerio, showcased its ongoing efforts to enhance DRMCโs disaster preparedness and response capabilities. Emergency preparedness lectures highlighted the roles of healthcare workers, patients, and the community in ensuring safety and continuity of care during emergencies, covering topics such as legal bases, natural disasters, hospital coding, surge or disease outbreaks, mass casualty incidents, and evacuation planning.
Simultaneously, as part of the World AIDS Day celebration, free and confidential HIV counseling and testing services as well as condoms were provided for interested participants.
Through this meaningful celebration, DRMC reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the rights, dignity, and well-being of persons with disabilities while strengthening institutional and community preparedness for health emergencies. The event concluded with a renewed call for collective action, emphasizing that an inclusive and prepared healthcare system is vital to building a safer and more resilient society for all.
