We are pleased to share that one of our palliative care consultants, DR JULIUS ATACADOR, successfully participated in the Malaysian Association of Pediatric Palliative Care (MAPPAC) National Training of Pediatric Palliative Provider Workshop 2026, held at the Malaysian Children’s Hospice in Kuala Lumpur from January 8 to 10, 2026.

This intensive training provided updated, evidence-based approaches in pediatric symptom management, communication with children and families, and holistic end-of-life care. The knowledge and skills gained from this program will directly strengthen the pediatric palliative care services of Davao Regional Medical Center by enhancing the quality of care delivered to children with life-limiting illnesses. It also supports our commitment to compassionate, family-centered care, and to building a multidisciplinary team that is well-equipped to address the complex physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of our young patients.

In palliative care, every intervention must honor comfort. Subcutaneous access offers a gentle, reliable way to manage distress without adding unnecessary procedures.

Our long-overdue Palliative Care Seminar for 2025 finally pushed through today. It was a productive session with our doctors and nurses, and a good reminder of why compassionate, patient-centered care matters. Grateful for everyone who made time to be there and for the meaningful discussions that came out of it.

Today, we join the global community in recognising World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2025.

More than 10 years have passed since the World Health Assembly called on all nations to strengthen palliative care as part of comprehensive care throughout the life course. Yet, millions still lack access to the care and comfort they deserve.

This year’s theme — Achieving the Promise: Universal Access to Palliative Care — reminds us that palliative care is not a privilege, but a human right. It is fundamental to improving quality of life, well-being, comfort, and human dignity for all — from children to older adults.

Over 73 million people need palliative care each year, and this number continues to grow as populations age and chronic diseases rise. True universal health coverage cannot be achieved without integrating palliative care into every level of the health system — ensuring access to essential medicines, including opioids such as morphine, and care that is compassionate, person-centred, and culturally sensitive.

At APHN, we stand with healthcare providers, advocates, policymakers, and communities across the Asia Pacific and beyond in working towards this vision — where every person who needs palliative care can receive it, without barriers, wherever they are.

Together, let’s make good on this promise. 💙🧡
