A healthy body starts with a healthy mouth.
And as I always say, Oral health is equal to overall health.
This month, our Dental Campaign highlights two major points.
First, we celebrate the whole month of February as National Dental Health Month, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 559. Today, here at Carlos Hilado Memorial State University, we culminate our celebration with the theme:
“Beyond the Dental Chair: Drama Talks!”
Every year, we take a different approach, leaving a lasting impression on our students. We learned about:
✅ Dental Esthetics by the University Student Government 👏👏👏
✅ Periodontitis by Hospitality Management 👏👏👏
✅ Avulsion through a short and sweet play by the Bachelor of Physical Education 👏👏👏
✅ Phonetics by the Bachelor of Arts in English Language 👏👏👏
Why do we present topics this way?
First, because I want you to be captivated and motivated to understand that learning becomes more meaningful and fun when it is interactive and heartfelt, through your thoughts, words, and actions, I believe these lessons will stay with you for a lifetime. These performance tasks allow you to become the actors and actresses of your own time, learning by doing, feeling, and expressing in your own way.
Second, whatever and whoever you are, we are all the same.
No one is different when it comes to oral health. Our mouths are essential parts of our bodies; we all have one, and we use it every single day for speaking, eating, smiling, and expressing love and emotions. That is why we must properly nourish and care for it.
As you noticed, before the program started, everyone was served with healthy snacks like malunggay arroz caldo, malunggay pandesal, and water as our number one drink. During the audiovisual presentation, we emphasized that after eating, wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth, and always brush them properly. Toothbrushes and toothpaste are distributed, so please follow these simple but important guidelines and instructions.
Third, I want to emphasize
That dentistry is not just about “bunot.” Dentistry is broad and specialized. In fact, we are a specialty of Medicine that focuses solely on the mouth. Within this field, there are subspecialties such as orthodontics, implantology, oral surgery, periodontology, endodontics, pedodontics, TMJ specialists, and many more. That is why we are called Doctors, we diagnose, we treat, and yes, we prescribe medicines. I know we have many doctors here in this institution. But we are only TWO doctors here, standing and serving alongside the healthcare community.
Now, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all! All of these activities would not have been possible without the collaboration of our organizers and officers. Especially the President, Dr. Norberto Mangulabnan, Sir Russel Dela Torre- VPAA, the Center for Internationalization and External Relations, Office of the Students Affairs and Services, Ma’am Maria Victoria Violanda, Director OSAS, Sir John Valladarez, Sir Roderick Samonte-CIER Director, Sir Michael Franz Durano, Faustina Magbanua, Stephen Peñafiel, Deans of each college, Ma’am Ophelia M. Duayan, Dr. Arjay Y. Alvarado, Dr. Angelie P. Lopez, Engr. Grace C. Gerona, Business Affairs Office Director, Nueyear Jan Balaan, and you who are here today were chosen as representatives of your class because of the responsibility and trust placed in you by the Deans of each college. I hope you will become advocates of good oral health. So please pass it on.
Once again, thank you for your time, your eagerness to learn, and your willingness to listen. Most especially, thank you for the enthusiasm in your eyes and
the smiles on your faces.
It makes me truly proud of every one of you. So congratulations! Please give yourselves a big round of applause. 👏👏👏Congratulations to one and all! I know you are all officers of your own classroom, teaching different courses and programs in the colleges, and you are the right candidates to be advocates of Oral Health❣️🍾👏🥂 Disseminate and inform all your classmates, family, and the community of what you learn today. 💜
For our second campaign, we continue to promote awareness of Republic Act No. 9484, also known as the Philippine Dental Act of 2007, reminding everyone:
“Protektado sa dentista nga lisensyado!”
Please support this campaign to avoid complications and diseases. Do you want to save money? “Dali lang, basi mapamahal ka pa!” Prevention is always better and more affordable than a cure.
These are our two main concerns this month. Please support our Campaign not only this month but also all year round!
If you have questions or need assistance, please visit our Dental Clinic on the Lower Ground Floor, Room 2, on the left side of the Student Center.
I am your university dentist, together with our nurse, Ms. Crisney Golipapa, our secretary, and working students, always ready and happy to help and serve.
See you around!
(Luwas lang kung naka-study leave ko. 😄)
