CASE: A 45 years old, Female, Married, came in for a non-healing wound on the 2nd digit of her right foot. It started after an accidental injury and within 3 days redness and swelling of right foot were noted. Patient is known diabetic but partially to non-compliant to medication nor diet modification as previously given and advised. She was also diagnosed with Diabetic retinopathy (2023).

Patient sought consult after wound became rapidly progressing. Laboratory work up and Imaging were done. Patient started on Insulin regimen, placed under strict sugar monitoring with diet modification and after a series of debridement and 2 sessions of VAC (Vacuum Assited Closure). Patient was able to recover well.

Diabetes has been an increasing healthcare problem according to WHO. The increasing trend ranges from ages 20-79 yrs. old. There was a 3% increase in mortality rate between 2000 and 2019. It has been a major cause of majority of health complications such as kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, limb amputation and blindness.

Identifying early symptoms such us weight loss, increase urinary frequency and excessive thirst is not only the key but identifying Diabetes risk factors as well.

An 85 years old, Female, Post-Stroke patient, referred for a decubitus ulcer. Patient’s family opted Palliative and Home care. Patient is bedridden with a Glasgow Coma Scale of 9 (E4, V1, M4). After Laboratory work up done via Home Service, the patient was scheduled for wound debridement and vac (Vacuum Assisted Closure) application under mild sedation and local infiltration.

CASE: A 39 years old, Female, Single, sought consult for an infected wound. 3 days prior, patient noticed a progressive wound on her 5th digit, medial area. Noted pain and swelling on affected area. Patient took antibiotics but noticed progression of wound instead of relief.
