On February 26,2024, student doctors from Ateneo de Zamboanga-School of Medicine organized a Community Assembly in barangay Malila-T, Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte for the “Prioritization of problems identified in the community”.

We invited at least one representative from each household. Blood pressure was also taken to identify diagnosed and undiagnosed hypertensive individuals.

To add some fun to the day, there was a raffle draw as a token of appreciation for the community’s support.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the pillars of the barangay- the steadfast barangay captain, the devoted barangay councilors, the diligent barangay secretary, the tireless barangay health workers, and the dedicated barangay nutritionist scholar for their help in making the event a success.

Your friendly neighborhood medical students are back from a busy spell in the community with exciting updates to share.

Here’s a compilation of our activities that is a testament to our dedication and passion for medicine and desire to serve, actively contributing to the health and well-being of Malila-T. From sunrise to sunset, we spend time going to purok by purok, door to door , engaging with community members, listening to their concerns, understanding the unique challenges they face. We have learned to view these challenges as opportunities to help, to find creative solutions to problems, and to provide support to community members.

The journey of our group, like any collective endeavor, has its fair share of challenges and hardships. Our group is a diverse tapestry of individuals, each with unique backgrounds, skills and perspective. However, our commitment to community medicine, we have come together, setting aside our differences.

As we continue to navigate the unpredictable path ahead, join us as we embark on a mission to improve the well-being of Malila-T, Tampilisan Zamboanga del Norte. Watch this space for updates on our events.

So, in their session on March 03, 2023, the team paid a courtesy visit to present ourselves and our reasons for being there. Primarily as partners for a strong and healthy Malila-T.

Today's destination, Sitio Balugo! Carrying on with our ocular visit,l and introductions, we went to Sitio Balugo, consisting of Purok 1 and Purok 4. Hats and sunscreens on, we venture on, 4.5 km away from the barangay's Centro (Purok 7).

Once again, the pick-up line is used,
"Maayung adlaw sa tanan, magpaila-ila sah mi".
