Some people use Physical Therapists and Massage Therapists interchangeably, but they’re actually very different!

Massage therapists focus on soft-tissue work and wellness services, and they usually operate under lighter vocational regulation.

Physical therapists, on the other hand, are licensed healthcare professionals. They’re trained to assess and rehabilitate movement and function, with a broader, medically integrated scope of practice. In the Philippines, PTs are regulated by national law under RA 5680 (the Philippine Physical and Occupational Therapy Law). Physical therapists also use therapeutic modalities in conjunction with rehabilitation programs and are required to obtain post-graduate skills as part of continuing professional development mandated by law. They must complete 45 CPD units every three years to be eligible for renewal of their PRC license.

This post is simply meant to inform and highlight the key differences between the two. For medical concerns, it’s always best to consult a qualified healthcare professional. πŸ’ͺ
