The Gilberto O. Teodoro Memorial Hospital- Animal Bite Treatment Center is joining forces with the Department of Health (DOH) to celebrate Rabies Awareness Month! Throughout the month, our hospital will be conducting:

- Health Education Sessions: Our medical team will be sharing valuable information on Rabies prevention and what to do in case of an animal bite at our Outpatient Department (OPD).

- Educational Materials: Keep an eye out for our posters and flyers around the hospital with important facts and tips on Rabies awareness.

- Vaccination Services: If you've been bitten by an animal, visit us for vaccination and proper wound care. Our healthcare professionals are here to help!

GOTMH-ABTC remains committed to unified, timely, and evidence-based rabies prevention and control through sustained multidisciplinary collaboration.

Trivia: Anti-Rabies Vaccine (ARV)
Kailan nagkakabisa ang Anti-Rabies Vaccine?
>>>Ang ARV ay hindi agad-agad nagkakabisa.
>>>Karaniwang nagkakaroon ng proteksyon matapos ang ika-7 hanggang ika-14 na araw, habang natatapos ang mga unang dose ng bakuna.
Paalala:
• Kaya mahalaga ang agarang pagpapabakuna matapos makagat o makalmot
• Kumpletuhin ang lahat ng schedule ng ARV ayon sa payo ng health worker
• Sa malalalim o high-risk bites, kailangan din ng Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG)

Sa rabies, walang dapat ipagsawalang-bahala — mas maaga, mas ligtas. Mgpabakuna agad sa GOTMH-ABTC!!

What is the Rabies Vaccine?

>>> The rabies vaccine helps the body develop immunity against the rabies virus and prevents the disease if given on time.

>>> When is Rabies Vaccine Needed?
After an Animal Bite (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis – PEP):
Start vaccination immediately

***Vaccine schedule:
Day 0 (day of bite)
Day 3
Day 7
***Day 14 (Sometimes Day 28)--- if the vaccine is WHO non-prequalified

For deep or severe wounds, Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) is also required.

>>> Before Exposure (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis):
Recommended for:
Veterinarians
Animal handlers
Laboratory workers
Schedule: Day 0, Day 7, Day 21/28

>>> Immediate Wound Care (Very Important):
Wash the wound with soap and running water for 15 minutes
Apply antiseptic (e.g., Betadine)
Visit a health facility as soon as possible

>>> Common Side Effects:
Pain or redness at injection site
Mild fever
Headache or fatigue
(Usually mild and temporary)

>>> Remember:
Rabies has no cure after symptoms start
Vaccination saves lives
Never ignore an animal bite

Ipinababatid po ng Gilberto O. Teodoro Memorial Hospital na MALAPIT na pong magbukas ang ating Animal Bite Treatment Center at magkaroon ng Anti-Rabies Vaccine para sa mga pasyenteng nakagat ng a*o, pusa, o iba pang hayop.

Libre po ang bakuna sa mga kabilang sa Category 3 exposure sa mga mayroong aktibong PhilHealth membership. 💉💉💉

✔️Ano ang Category 3 exposure?
➡️Kagat o kalmot na may sugat o pagdurugo
➡️Dila, laway, o kagat ng a*o o pusa na tumama sa mucous membrane (bibig, mata, ilong)
➡️Multiple bites or scratches sa katawan
➡️Kagat o kalmot sa ulo at leeg

Ipapabatid agad sa publiko ang schedule ng ating ABTC at kung ano ang mga kakailanganing dokumento para makatanggap ng libreng bakuna kontra sa rabies.

Gilberto O. Teodoro Memorial Hospital has satisfactorily complied with the DOH National Rabies Prevention and Control Program requirement for establishing the Animal Bite Treatment Center which aims to eliminate human rabies and declare the country free from canine-mediated rabies by 2030.
