Latest reporting from the CDC shows this year’s flu season is the deadliest non-pandemic flu season for U.S. children. 216 children have died. This number passed last year’s flu season, which set a previous high for a non-pandemic season with 207 pediatric deaths. Even with seasonal flu activity declining since its February peak, AAP and CDC recommend everyone six months and older get vaccinated against the flu. A second unvaccinated child has died from measles in Texas, according to Texas health officials. AAP President Dr. Susan Kressly shared the heartbreak of all pediatricians mourning a child’s death from a preventable disease. With this rapidly expanding measles outbreak,. Dr. Kressly called on the federal government to support immunization instead of promoting dangerous misinformation and eliminating programs that children need. “We call on our elected officials to lead with science, restore expertise in their decision-making, and promote vaccines.
