Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PWD). In the Philippines, as of mid-2025, the country has over 2.5 million registered persons with disabilities (PWDs), marking a 35% increase from the previous year. While most registered PWDs have physical disabilities, a notable percentage (approximately 70-80%) live with invisible disabilities.
Challenges persist, including varying levels of readiness among Local Government units (LGUs), while the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) continues to update the data on the PWD population.
Today serves as a reminder to embrace inclusivity, practice patience, show grace, and eliminate discrimination against persons with disabilities (PWDs).
