Pet Care Tip: Long Nails Can Cause Pain

Overgrown nails aren’t just a grooming issue, they can cause real discomfort and health problems for your pet. When nails get too long, they press against the ground when walking, leading to pain, pressure, and improper posture.

Why long nails are a problem:
✔ Causes pain when walking or standing
✔ Affects posture and joint alignment
✔ Increases risk of nail breakage or injury
✔ Can lead to ingrown nails (especially in cats)
✔ May cause difficulty walking or slipping

Signs your pet’s nails are too long:
✔ Clicking sound on the floor
✔ Nails touching the ground when standing
✔ Limping or reluctance to walk
✔ Curved or overgrown nails

Simple care tips:
✔ Trim nails regularly (every 3–4 weeks or as needed)
✔ Use proper nail clippers for pets
✔ Ask your vet or groomer for safe trimming
✔ Don’t forget dewclaws — they grow too!

Keeping nails short helps your pet move comfortably and prevents avoidable pain.

ATOPIC DERMATITIS AWARENESS | DOGS & CATS

Food allergies can affect both dogs and cats, causing skin irritation, digestive problems, and constant discomfort if left unmanaged.

🐾 Common Signs to Watch For:
• Persistent itching or scratching
• Red or inflamed skin
• Ear infections or head shaking
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Excessive licking of paws
• Hair loss or skin infections

🍗 What Causes Food Allergies?
Some pets develop allergies to certain proteins or ingredients commonly found in pet food such as beef, chicken, dairy, wheat, or soy.

⚠️ Why It Matters:
Food allergies can significantly affect your pet’s quality of life and may lead to chronic skin and ear problems if not properly addressed.

💡 What You Can Do:
• Avoid sudden diet changes
• Work with your veterinarian for an elimination diet trial
• Feed high-quality, balanced pet food
• Monitor your pet for recurring symptoms

Every pet is unique—what works for one may not work for another. Proper diagnosis is key to finding the right diet for your pet.

📍 If your pet is constantly itching or having digestive issues, consult your veterinarian.

Did You Know? Dogs Yawn When They’re Stressed or Empathetic

Yawning in dogs isn’t always about being sleepy. In many situations, it’s actually a form of communication. Dogs use yawning as a calming signal to help manage stress or ease tension in their environment.

Why dogs yawn:

✔ Stress or Anxiety:
Yawning can act as a self-soothing behavior when a dog feels nervous, pressured, or uncomfortable. You might notice it during vet visits, loud noises, training sessions, or unfamiliar situations.

✔ Empathy:
Dogs can also “catch” yawns from humans, especially their owners. Studies suggest this contagious yawning may be linked to bonding and basic empathy, showing how closely dogs respond to our emotions.

Understanding these subtle signals helps furparents recognize when their dog may need comfort, space, or reassurance.
