Pet Care Tip: Long Nails Can Cause Pain
Overgrown nails aren’t just a grooming issue, they can cause real discomfort and health problems for your pet. When nails get too long, they press against the ground when walking, leading to pain, pressure, and improper posture.
Why long nails are a problem:
✔ Causes pain when walking or standing
✔ Affects posture and joint alignment
✔ Increases risk of nail breakage or injury
✔ Can lead to ingrown nails (especially in cats)
✔ May cause difficulty walking or slipping
Signs your pet’s nails are too long:
✔ Clicking sound on the floor
✔ Nails touching the ground when standing
✔ Limping or reluctance to walk
✔ Curved or overgrown nails
Simple care tips:
✔ Trim nails regularly (every 3–4 weeks or as needed)
✔ Use proper nail clippers for pets
✔ Ask your vet or groomer for safe trimming
✔ Don’t forget dewclaws — they grow too!
Keeping nails short helps your pet move comfortably and prevents avoidable pain.
