Hantaviruses are a group of viruses that are transmitted by rodents such as rats.
According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), as of May 7, 2026, several cases of Andes virus (from the Hantavirus group) have been recorded among passengers of the cruise ship MV Hondius, which sailed from Argentina to the islands in the South Atlantic.
The Department of Health assures that the 38 Filipino crew members on board this ship are safe.
Important reminder from DOH: There are NO confirmed cases of Hantaviruses in the Philippines. The country's borders are being strictly monitored through the measures of the Bureau of Quarantine.
According to WHO, its risk of spreading remains low.

On April 28, 2026, our community faced a tragic vehicular accident in Salabao, Tuel. A vehicle suffered brake failure and plunged down a 200‑meter slope, leaving seven people injured and claiming one life.

The response was both exhausting and emotionally heavy, yet our teams worked tirelessly to provide first aid, triage, and referrals for the victims. After all patients were successfully referred, Dr. Mary Jane Grace L. Muñoz, Municipal Health Officer gathered the victims’ relatives, BLGU officials, and community who had helped at the site for a short debriefing. A prayer was offered to honor the life lost, to strengthen the survivors and responders, and to bless the road area.

Later, upon returning to their stations, Dr. Muñoz facilitated a debriefing session with all other participating agencies, including the Municipal DRRMO, SB Health Representative, MHO, BFP, and PNP to reflect on the response and reinforce coordination for future emergencies.

We extend our sincerest condolences to the bereaved family and prayers for the recovery of the injured. We also express our heartfelt gratitude to the different agencies, teams and volunteers from Tuel BLGU, Bayokbok Responders, Tublay MHO, Tublay & La Trinidad BFP, Tublay & La Trinidad PNP, 911 and the wider community who showed courage, compassion, and unity in the face of tragedy.

This incident is a solemn reminder of the importance of road safety and preparedness. May we continue to work together to build a safer and more resilient community.
