✨ DOH Launches Support to DepEd’s Learner Health Assessment and Screening Program ✨

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – September 2, 2025 —

In a meaningful step toward nurturing healthier and more resilient learners, the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 02 through the School Health and Nutrition Unit (SHNU) proudly witnessed the Department of Health (DOH)–Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development launch its support to the Learner Health Assessment and Screening (LHAS) Program through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing held at Hotel Carmelita, Tuguegarao City.

The LHAS Program, a DepEd initiative, places learner health and well-being at the core of education by providing early health assessments, timely referrals, and access to vital services. With DOH’s support, this initiative is further strengthened—allowing us to reach more learners and ensure that no child is left behind due to preventable or manageable health conditions.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our very own Regional Director Benjamin D. Paragas and Assistant Regional Director Florante E. Vergara, whose steadfast leadership continues to inspire our commitment to learner welfare. We also thank DOH Regional Director Ferdinand M. Benbenen, represented by OIC ARD Domingo Lavadia, along with our partner hospitals, Provincial Government Offices and LGUs, professional associations, media partners, and all stakeholders whose unwavering support makes this shared mission possible.

Joint Monitoring Held for Healthy Learning Institution Awardees in Tuguegarao City
August 1, 2025 – Tuguegarao City

The Department of Education (DepEd) School Health and Nutrition Unit (SHNU), in partnership with the Department of Health – Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development (DOH-CVCHD), conducted a joint monitoring visit on August 1, 2025, at Tuguegarao North Central School and Ugac Integrated School—two of the recognized Healthy Learning Institution (HLI) awardees in Region 2.

The monitoring aimed to ensure the proper use of prizes awarded to the winning schools and to assess their ongoing implementation of health-promoting programs aligned with the goals of Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd and the Healthy Settings Framework.

This activity highlights the strong collaboration between DepEd and DOH in promoting safe and health-conducive learning environments for Filipino learners.

The SHNU extends its heartfelt gratitude to Regional Director Benjamin D. Paragas and Assistant Regional Director Florante E. Vergara for their continued support in championing school health and nutrition initiatives across the region.

DepEd and DOH Strengthen Partnership Through Virtual Orientation on Vision and Hearing Screening

Reinforcing their shared commitment to learner health and well-being, the Department of Education Regional Office 02- School Health and Nutrition Unit (DepEd -SHNU) and the DOH- Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development (DOH-CVCHD) joined forces in a virtual orientation on Vision and Hearing Screening, held under the Learner Health Assessment and Screening (LHAS) initiative.

This meaningful collaboration reflects the ongoing and impactful partnership between DepEd-SHNU and DOH-CVCHD in delivering essential health services to schools. The activity featured specialist doctors from the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) who served as resource speakers, providing expert guidance to DepEd’s health personnel.

The orientation aimed to enhance the capacity of DepEd Health Personnel in detecting and responding to vision and hearing concerns among learners—ensuring that health-related barriers to learning are addressed early and effectively.

DepEd expresses its sincere appreciation to the DOH-CVCHD and CVMC for their unwavering support, technical expertise, and strong collaboration that continue to uplift the standard of school health services.

DepEd Region 02 Rolls Out Lakas Gatas Campaign to Strengthen Learners’ Nutrition

In its continued commitment to promote proper nutrition among school children, the Department of Education Region 02 officially rolled out the Lakas Gatas Campaign, a nationwide initiative that encourages milk consumption for healthier and more resilient learners.

Spearheaded by the School Health and Nutrition Unit, the regional rollout highlighted the vital role of nutrition in academic performance and child development. Learners, teachers, and parents participated in interactive sessions and milk-drinking activities, reinforcing the importance of daily milk intake.

🪱 GOODBYE WORMS, HELLO HEALTHY LEARNERS! 📚💪
The Department of Education proudly supports the DOH-led launch of the 2025 Helminthiasis Control Program in Solana, where over 1,000 learners received mass deworming to protect them from harmful worm infections that affect their health, focus, and academic performance.

Through this initiative, we take one big step toward healthier, more energized, and more successful students. DepEd remains committed to working hand-in-hand with DOH, LGUs, and communities to ensure every learner thrives—in the classroom and beyond.

SDO Cauayan City Gears Up for School-Based Immunization

Cauayan City, July 4, 2025 — With a strong push for healthier schools, SDO Cauayan City, through its School Health and Nutrition Unit, in partnership with the City Health Office (CHO), successfully conducted a division orientation on school-based immunization at Maximilian Hotel, Cauayan City. The event gathered school nurses and school heads from across the division.

The orientation emphasized the critical role of immunization as a key strategy in safeguarding learners' health and ensuring safe school communities. Participants were updated on the latest guidelines, schedules, and implementation strategies for the program.

Assistant Schools Division Superintendent (ASDS), Chelo C. Tangan, EDD, CESO VI, delivered an inspiring message that encouraged health and education leaders to take proactive roles in promoting the health and well-being of every learner.

This activity is part of a series of division-level orientations organized by the Department of Education Regional Office 02 School Health and Nutrition Unit (SHNU), in collaboration with the Department of Health – Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development (DOH–CVCHD).

The orientation provided a platform for collaboration and reinforced stakeholders' commitment to ensuring that no learner is left behind in the fight against vaccine-preventable diseases.
