Mayor Law Fortun pushed for the early approval of the Special Education Fund (SEF) to ensure timely support for the city’s educational needs.

This proactive move allows early procurement of school essentials, including athletic uniforms and provisions for student-athletes and in preparing for the Palarong Pambansa 2026 in Agusan del Sur.

The SEF also funds vital programs such as the Program for the Arts and Journalism, production of Butuanon Language learning materials, Gawad Galing at Talino Awards, Project SMART, and Research and Literacy Programs—all designed to promote equal learning opportunities, enhance teaching quality, and nurture student talents in academics, arts, and sports.

This strategic investment will immediately boost school facilities and morale while ensuring smooth program implementation. In the long term, it aims to develop a generation of well-rounded, tech-savvy, and future-ready learners—reflecting the City Government’s unwavering commitment to accessible, inclusive, and quality education for every Butuanon.

The Balangay isn't just history—it's our blueprint for the future. 🛶

Butuan Mayor Lawrence Lemuel H. Fortun perfectly captured the city's vision at the Balangay International Conference, using the ancient boat as a powerful metaphor for progress rooted in heritage.

"As we chart Butuan’s future, we are inspired by the lessons of the balangay. Just as the balangay bound together communities on trade routes — we seek to connect people with opportunities. Just as it was built with craftsmanship and respect for nature — we aim to grow sustainability mindful of the environment we inherit and pass on. And just as it carried both goods and culture — we strive to make Butuan not only of progress, but of heritage, identity and pride."

It's a lesson in connection, craftsmanship, and sustainable growth. Let's continue building a future anchored in our past. 🇵🇭
