𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗨𝗧𝗬𝗔 𝗛𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗕𝗨𝗧𝗨𝗔𝗡

The Mutya Hong Butuan pageant will be deferred to next year's Balangay Festival in light of the ongoing global crisis.

This deferment is not a cancellation. The screening and selection process has already been completed, and the results will be preserved in full. The candidates chosen this year shall officially comprise next year’s roster, and no new screening will be conducted.

Only in the event that a selected candidate relinquishes her slot will additional screening be held, solely for the purpose of filling the vacancy.

We extend our congratulations to the sixteen (16) candidates selected from nearly seventy (70) applicants, whom we will announce soon. We look forward to their continued growth, preparation, and grace as they take the stage in Mutya Hong Butuan next year.

𝗣𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗖 𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗬

In view of the continuing challenges brought about by the crisis in the Middle East, and in light of the declaration of a State of National Energy Emergency, I wish to respectfully inform the public that certain activities lined up for the celebration of the Balangay Festival 2026 will be postponed or canceled.

At this time, I am guided by our shared responsibility to exercise prudence in the use of public funds and to place foremost the more urgent needs of our people. In the face of present uncertainties, it is both necessary and prudent to recalibrate some of our plans, deferring select activities to a more appropriate time, while discontinuing others for this year.

Accordingly, the following adjustments will be made:

𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆:
- Mutya Hong Butuan

𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆:
- Lamdag Balangay
- Indak Balangay
- Festival of Talents
- Butuan Volleyball Exhibition
- 3rd Bugsay Balangay National Dragon Boat Club Crew Competition

While these adjustments may temper the scale of our festivities, they do not diminish their meaning. The City of Butuan will continue to celebrate the Balangay Festival in a manner that is joyful, meaningful and responsive to the times. More significantly, we will proceed with the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Balangay Excavation, a defining symbol of our history, identity and culture, and a testament to the enduring spirit of the Butuanon people.

Indeed, the spirit of the Balangay is not confined to moments of abundance. It reveals itself most profoundly in times that call for unity, resilience, and shared purpose. It is this very spirit that will guide us as we navigate present challenges and move forward together.

I humbly ask for your understanding and continued support.

Salamat gid kadiyaw, and together, let us press on, steadfast and united, for the good of our beloved city.

Padayon sa paglawig, Butuan.

A heartfelt salute to the brave as we look back on today’s solemn commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan at the Butuan City Library.

This meaningful gathering served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our veterans, whose courage and resilience continue to inspire generations.

We honor their legacy not only through remembrance, but by embodying the true spirit of valor in our daily lives—through honesty, compassion, and unity for the common good.

“Sa simpleng pag tulong, sa pagiging tapat, sa malasakit sa kapwa, sa pag kakaisa para sa ikabubuti ng lahat. Ito ang tunay na diwa ng kagitingan. “

Today, Butuan City stands in solemn pride as we commemorate Araw ng Kagitingan. This isn't just a date on the calendar, it is a powerful reminder of the indomitable spirit and unwavering courage of our veterans. By gathering at the City Library, we bridge the gap between our heroic past and our ascending future, ensuring that the sacrifices made for our freedom continue to burn brightly in the hearts of every Butuanon. Our history of resilience is the very foundation upon which we build a city that is stronger, bolder, and more united.

Under the leadership of Mayor Law Fortun, the local government remains steadfast in honoring those who gave their all for the nation. It was a moment to reflect on our identity and the "Diwa ng Bayani" that lives within us all Butuanons.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our veterans and all the distinguished guests who joined us in this sacred observance. Together, let us keep the flame of patriotism alive as we continue our journey toward a more prosperous and free Butuan. Salute to our heroes!

The City Government of Butuan (CGB) successfully maintained its ISO 9001:2015 Certification following the Recertification Audit conducted on April 7–8, 2026, reaffirming the city’s commitment to delivering quality, efficient, and reliable public services for every Butuanon.

Butuan first obtained the ISO certification in 2023, recognizing the city’s strong Quality Management System that ensures government processes remain organized, consistent, and responsive to the needs of the public.

In his message, Mayor Law Fortun explained that the systems and procedures required under ISO are meant to guide government offices in serving people better. He emphasized that the goal is not just to complete tasks or requirements, but to make sure that government services lead to real improvements and better outcomes for the people of Butuan.

This achievement reflects the city government’s continued commitment to quality service and better governance for every Butuanon.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development through the CSWDD released a ₱5,000 cash subsidy to more than 1,800 qualified drivers at the Brgy. Doongan Covered Court—providing timely assistance amid rising fuel prices and helping sustain stable transportation services for commuters.

The distribution was led by DSWD, while support from the City Government of Butuan was extended through the City Transportation and Traffic Management Department (CTTMD), which facilitated the verification of the official masterlist of tricycle drivers. Beneficiaries presented their Driver’s Education Program (DEP) ID and photocopy of their driver’s license for validation before proceeding to CSWD for the cash release, ensuring an orderly and transparent process.

Through this initiative, drivers receive much-needed financial support to continue operating despite fuel price increases, while commuters are assured that transportation services remain available without additional fare burden to the Butuanon commuters.

𝗔𝗧𝗠: Supporting Our Drivers, Easing the Burden on Commuters

The payout of subsidy for our tricycle drivers, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development, is now ongoing—recognizing their vital role in ensuring that workers, students, and families reach their destinations safely every day.

The transportation sector is prioritized because it keeps daily life and the local economy moving. At the same time, we remain committed to keeping fares stable—because any increase will affect everyone.

This subsidy helps our drivers cope with rising costs without passing the burden on to commuters. This initiative supports both our drivers and the riding public.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for their continued support to our transport sector and our community.

The implementation of the reduced Traffic Violation Fines has officially begun—turning a commitment into concrete action. This milestone reflects the city’s continued push, under the leadership of Mayor Law Fortun, to create a more balanced and responsive approach to traffic enforcement—one that is fair to motorists while still upholding discipline and road safety.

This development is part of a broader effort to ease the burden on drivers while encouraging greater accountability and compliance on our streets.

As we observe this Holy Week, I invite every Butuanon to pause, reflect, and draw strength from the enduring message of faith, sacrifice, and hope.

In the midst of the trials and uncertainties we are facing today, we are reminded in Scripture that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). Though challenges may weigh heavily upon us, let us remain steadfast in our faith, trusting that the Lord is in control and that His purposes are always good.

Just as Jesus Christ endured suffering and overcame, we too can find hope and strength in Him.

May this season lead us to renew our commitment to live according to God’s will—showing love, extending grace, and helping one another in times of need.

Let us stand united as one balangay, lifting each other up in prayer and encouragement, and being a light to those who are struggling. As we look forward with hope, may we hold on to God’s promises, knowing that He is faithful to sustain and guide us through every trial we face.
