Touch each part (arms, belly, face) as you whisper:

End with your hands on your chest.
Breathe.
Say:

There is a quiet epidemic far older than any diagnosis.
It is the disconnection from what is real,
from what is tender,
from what is true.

We call it busyness.
We call it professionalism.
We call it strength.
We call it success.

But often—it is just numbness in disguise.

We have built a world that moves faster than our nervous systems can process.
Where notifications replace conversations.
Where silence is awkward.
Where grief is rushed.
Where pain is medicated before it is heard.

We forgot how to sit with sadness without fixing it.
How to listen without interrupting.
How to cry without apologizing.
How to feel without fearing we’re falling apart.

Instead, we chase dopamine.
We scroll. We binge.
We swipe.
We consume stimulation in place of genuine connection.

And somewhere in this overstimulated stillness, we began to confuse comfort with aliveness.
Safety with avoidance.
Functioning with well-being.

So when someone finally breaks—we call them unstable.
We say they are the problem.
We treat the symptomwhile leaving the system untouched.

But what if they are simply the first to stop pretending?
What if their panic, their depression, their despair is not dysfunction—but honest data in a dishonest culture?

What if their body is refusing to adapt to what is inhumane?

Mental illness, in this light,
is not always personal.
It is communal.
It is collective grief unprocessed.
Collective trauma unspoken.
Collective sensitivity unwelcomed.

And healing, then,
is not just your return to wholeness—
but the world’s invitation to remember
how to be human again.

To slow down.
