Every 3 December, we join the global community in celebrating the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗜𝗗𝗣𝗗). This day highlights the importance of promoting the rights, inclusion, and well-being of persons with disabilities in all areas of life (social, political, economic, and cultural). Together with the UN and WHO, we reaffirm our commitment to building a society where everyone can participate fully, equally, and without barriers.

Across all regions, persons with disabilities and their families continue to encounter significant barriers to social development. They are more likely to experience poverty and face ongoing discrimination in employment, often receiving lower wages and being concentrated in informal work. Social protection systems also remain inconsistent and insufficient, especially when extra disability-related expenses are considered, leaving many without adequate support. In addition, many individuals still face care and support systems that compromise their dignity, autonomy, and agency.

October marks 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵, a time to spread awareness, honor every life touched by breast cancer, and stand together for equitable care and better outcomes for all. 💗

The theme of the World Health Organization’s this year reminds us: 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦, 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴. This year’s theme reminds us that each experience is unique and that every person deserves compassionate, timely, and quality care, no matter their background or where they come from. 🌍✨🎗️

𝘿𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬?

• Breast cancer caused an estimated 670,000 deaths globally in 2022.
• About half of all cases occur in women with no specific risk factors other than s*x and age.
• It was the most common cancer among women in 157 out of 185 countries.
• Breast cancer occurs everywhere — no country is spared.
• Even men can be affected, accounting for about 0.5–1% of cases.
Early detection, timely diagnosis, and access to comprehensive care, rehabilitation, and support are key to reducing the burden of breast cancer and improving lives worldwide.
