Sleeping on your left side keeps the stomach below the esophagus, preventing gastric acids from rising and causing reflux or heartburn. What Is Aspiration and Why Is It Dangerous?

Aspiration happens when food, liquid, or saliva enters the airway and lungs instead of the stomach.
