Broken braces? Don't panic!

Here's a guide from the Association of Philippine Orthodontists to help you with emergency concerns about your braces.

• LOOSE BRACKETS, BUCCAL TUBES OR MOLAR BANDS
- If these are not attached to the arch wire anymore, clean with soap and water, dry, and keep until your next visit to your orthodontist. Loose brackets still hanging on the wire can be left untouched.

• LONG ARCH WIRE POKING ON THE PATIENT'S CHEEKS, CAUSING MOUTH SORES OR LIMITED FUNCTION
- Orthodontic wax or a clean piece of cotton can be placed at the end of the wire. In cases of severe pain or discomfort, a clean and disinfected cuticle cutter or nail clipper may be used to cut the excess arch wire.

• LOOSE & POOR FITTING RETAINERS
- If your retainers are loose but still sits well, continue using them. III-fitting retainers that may cause sores should not be worn. Keep them in a cool, dry place and make sure to bring them on your next appointment.

So, don't worry! Your orthodontist will make sure to get your treatment back on track once the clinic reopens. Just contact them if you have any concerns and make sure that you follow their instructions such as practicing good oral hygiene and be careful of what and how you eat to avoid emergency situations during this time.

“Sa mga pasyente,
Huwag sana po kayo magugulat, pero kailangan na natin tanggapin, iba na ang mga rates ng dental fees when we resume clinic after lockdown. 😞

Double, triple, quadruple na presyo ngayon ng mga materials, consumables , disposables, facemask, gloves, PPE's, at iba't ibang kailangan sa ating pag gagamutan para na rin sa kaligtasan natin pare-pareho...Kaligtasan mo, (kaligtasan ng assistant) at Kaligtasan ko..kailangan po nating sumunod sa protocol na itinakda para sa ating kalusugan.
Biglang nag iba na ang ating mundo sa Dental at Medical na antas, hindi kasalanan ng inyong Dentista, walang may kasalanan kungdi ang sadyang pagtaas ng lahat ng bilihin...

Magiging "by appointment" na lamang ang klinika, tatawag muna o magtetext para sa "history screening" ng mga pasyente bago kayo papuntahin.

Limitado na ang pasyenteng tatanggapin sa maghapon upang mgkaroon ng sapat na oras sa mabusising "disinfection" at "sterilization" .
Hindi po muna tatanggap ng "walk-ins". Mag tetext muna upang mabigyan kayo ng schedule or appointment.

Also dear patients please come on time sa scheduled appointments. Kasi po my mga pasyenteng naaapektuhan ng hindi nyo po pagpunta sa tamang oras. Susubukan po namin maaccomodate lahat ng concerns nyo after lock down.

Kaya ang bilin lagi sa inyo, Noon, Ngayon, Bukas at Magpakailanman.....
