Play isn’t “just play” — it’s your child’s first language of learning.

Each stage builds a different skill, and together they shape how your child thinks, communicates, and connects with the world.

Here are 6 Stages of Play:

👶𝗨𝗻𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 (𝟬–𝟯 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀)
At this stage, babies move their arms, legs, hands, and feet to discover how their body works. Most playtime should include Tummy Time, which helps build strength and coordination.

🧸 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 (𝟬–𝟮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀)
Children play alone, focused on their own activities. Independent play encourages creativity, concentration, and self-discovery.

👀 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 (𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀)
They watch others play — curious, observing, but not ready to join in just yet. They may ask questions or talk to the playing children, but they are mostly observing — learning social cues and rules.

🧩 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗹 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 (𝟮+ 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀)
Children play beside others, doing similar activities but not interacting directly. For example, two kids may play in the same sandbox or color on separate papers. They’re learning awareness of others while still focused on themselves.

🗣️ 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 (𝟯–𝟰 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀)
At this stage, children start to interact during play, sharing toys or talking while doing similar activities. They may play near each other on the same playground equipment but focus on their own play rather than a shared goal.

🤝 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 (𝟰+ 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀)
Children play together with shared goals, roles, or stories. This stage develops teamwork, communication, and social skills.

𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘀!

Play is vital at every age. Including play in your child’s daily routine supports growth, learning, and social development.

But remember! Every child develops at their own pace. There is no rush, and every stage is meaningful.

What looks simple on the outside is actually complex development happening beneath the surface. 🌱💛

If your little one is in their “Why? Why? Why?” phase… don’t worry — it’s actually a great sign.

𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝘀𝗸 “𝘄𝗵𝘆” 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗿𝗲:
🌱 building curiosity
🌱 trying to make sense of the world
🌱 learning how things work
🌱 strengthening their thinking and language skills

“Why” is their way of making sense of life, one tiny discovery at a time.

Here are 3 simple tips to nurture that beautiful curiosity:

𝟭. 𝗔𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗿𝘆
Instead of rushing through replies, try:
“Hmm… what do you think?”
It turns a simple question into a moment of shared learning.

𝟮. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
Ask open-ended questions during play or routines:
“Why do you think clouds move?”
When you model curiosity, they feel encouraged to ask more.

𝟯. 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 ‘𝘄𝗵𝘆’
A warm “That’s a great question!” builds confidence and teaches them that wondering is a good thing — not something to stop.

Because for children, “why” isn’t just a question.
When they constantly ask “why,” they aren’t just looking for answers — they’re learning how to think, explore, and understand the world. ✨

Today at Little Trekkers, we explored something every child experiences but doesn’t always know how to express — feelings.

Through stories, role-play, and fun expression games, the children learned to recognise emotions like happy, sad, scared, and excited.

It was adorable watching them point to faces, act out feelings, and even share moments when they felt the same way.

Why do we do this?
Because when children learn to identify their emotions, they:
🌱 understand themselves better
🌱 communicate more clearly
🌱 handle big feelings with confidence
🌱 build empathy and stronger friendships

👣 𝗜𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗪-𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?

You’ve probably seen it before — your child sitting with their knees bent and legs out to the sides, forming a “W.” It’s super common… but here’s why we pay attention to it.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗪-𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴?
When kids sit on the floor with knees bent, feet out, and bottom in between—forming a “W.”

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗗𝗼 𝗜𝘁:
It feels steady and comfortable
Helps them keep balance without using much core strength
Some children with flexible joints naturally fall into this position

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗲 𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺
Limits trunk rotation (important for balance and coordination)
Puts extra stress on hips, knees, and ankles
Can lead to poor posture
May affect walking, running, and overall movement development

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽:
✅ Encourage cross-legged, side-sitting, or long-legged positions
✅ Strengthen core & hip muscles
✅ Offer cushions or small chairs
✅ Gently guide them into safer positions while playing
