The Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol (MELLPI Pro) was successfully conducted in Zamboanga City last September 17, 2025 at Grand Astoria Hotel. The evaluation team was led by Mr. Elton Peligrino, NO III(NNC), together Ms. Rowence Zorilla, NO II(NNC), Ms. Mary Jane Jocutan from PopDev.

Also graced during the event are the City Health Officer/CNAO Dra. Dulce Amor D. Miravite, Medical Nutrition Program Coordinator Dra. Myra Sharon Francisco and representatives from the City Budget Office (CBO), City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), Department of Education (DepEd), and Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and the representative of City Councilor Hannah Nuño, who delivered the closing remarks.

The event highlighted the city’s efforts in implementing nutrition programs and provided valuable feedback to further strengthen strategies for improving the nutrition situation in the community.

On-site monitoring of the Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (MBFHI) was conducted at Labuan General Hospital last September 12, 2025. The team carried out interviews with different stakeholders to assess the hospital’s compliance with MBFHI standards. Ms. Rahima Jimlano, NO II,interviewed both clinical and non-clinical staff, while Ms. Nuricel Akmad, ND II spoke with the department head. Meanwhile, Ms. Niña Manalo, RND, gathered insights from pregnant and lactating mothers. The activity provided valuable information on the hospital’s practices and areas for improvement in promoting mother and child health.

The simple gathering was filled with joy as colleagues celebrated her new work and wished her success ahead. Ms.Tan leaves behind not only her contributions to the CHO but also lasting friendships and an inspiring legacy of dedication and service to the program.

In partnership with the DICT- IX, the CHO Nutrition Division staff attended the Basic Computer Literacy Training held at DICT building last September 2, 2025. The training aims to enhanced the basic knowledge of the nutrition staff on Computer, AI and etc.The training was attended by representative from different agencies and stakeholders and some OJT students.

The City Health Office (CHO) Nutrition Division successfully conducted an orientation for the West Mindanao State University (WMSU) Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (BSND) students last September 1, 2025 at Conference Room, City Health Office. The activity aimed to familiarize the students with the key nutrition and health programs being implemented by the CHO and to strengthen their understanding of public health nutrition.

The program started with a warm welcome message delivered by Ms. Jocelyn Saavedra, No III, who emphasized the important role of future nutritionists in promoting community health. Following this, Mr. Eric Bangkal, ND II, discussed the Mission and Vision of the CHO, highlighting its commitment to providing quality health services and nutrition programs for the people of Zamboanga City.

To provide technical insights, several nutrition implementors share their expertise. Ms. Rowina Pagotaisidro, NO II, talked about the First 1000 Days of Life and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), underscoring the critical window of opportunity for child growth and development. Afterwards, I Ms. Rahima Jimlano, NO II, discussed on PIMAM (Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition), focusing on the management and prevention of malnutrition cases in the community. Ms. Jacqueline Tañamor, NO I, then presented an OPT (Operation Timbang Plus) and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), stressing the importance of proper nutrition assessment and the role of safe water and hygiene in health promotion.

The orientation was both informative and engaging, equipping the BSND students with essential knowledge about community-based nutrition programs and the health priorities of the CHO. It also served as an avenue to inspire students to actively take part in advancing nutrition and health initiatives in their future practice.
