The Brent Hospital Colleges, Inc. (BHCI) College of Nursing celebrated a significant milestone with the 23rd Candle Light, Cap, and Badge Ceremony, held on October 7, 2025, at the Astoria Regency Convention Center. The solemn occasion marked the official entry of 408 second-year student nurses of Batch Lumiere Asclepius 2028 into the clinical phase of their nursing education.
The event began with the processional march of the candidates, setting a formal and reverent tone for the ceremony. In attendance were key school officials and guests, including School Director Analyn V. Suenan, MN, ENGR. Allan Carl F. Bustamante, the Chief Operations Officer, and School Chaplain Rev. Roda S. Sagwil, who led the blessing of the caps, badges, and candle lampsโthe symbols of knowledge, service, and commitment in the nursing profession.
Also gracing the event were the faculty members and level coordinators of the College of Nursing along with Dean Ma. Nelia P. Magsino, MN, who formally presented Batch Lumiere Asclepius 2028 to the administration, signifying their readiness to undertake clinical training and responsibilities.
Following the presentation, the imposition of the caps and badges took place. The symbolic act represents the transition of student nurses from classroom learning to actual hospital exposure and patient care. One of the most anticipated highlightsโthe lighting of the candlesโwas led by Faye Ignacia J. Jalandoni, MAN, this yearโs Florence Nightingale. As the venue was illuminated by hundreds of flickering candles, the student nurses recited their nursing pledge, solemnly vowing to uphold the values of compassion, responsibility, and service.
The ceremony also featured a keynote address delivered by Guest Speaker Carlo Regino H. Carabaรฑa, MAN-NM, RN, FPSIS, RODC, who shared both personal experiences and professional insights. He expressed his deep connection to Brent Hospital, recalling moments of receiving care from its nurses and emphasized the importance of confidence and communication in the nursing field.
โNever be afraid to ask, even if it means risking being scolded,โ Mr. Carabaรฑa urged the students. โAsking questions ensures the delivery of proper and safe patient care. Confidence to ask is confidence to care.โ
His message resonated with many, highlighting the balance between humility and courage that every nurse must carry.
Representing the batch, Arshaid S. Atari delivered a heartfelt response, recalling their shared journeyโfrom the anxious days of preparing for the Nursing Aptitude Test (NAT) to finally standing proud as candidates in the ceremony. He extended gratitude to the parents, mentors, and clinical instructors for their unwavering support and guidance. He concluded with a memorable statement that captured the spirit of the batch name, โLet our batch name guide us: Lumiere, the light we bring to those in darkness, and Asclepius, our calling to heal through care.โ
The ceremony concluded with a touching dedicatory performance by Batch Lumiere Asclepius 2028. As they sang โToday My Life Begins,โ the student nurses offered tokens of appreciation to their parents, acknowledging their sacrifices and unconditional support throughout their journey.
The 23rd Candle Light, Cap, and Badge Ceremony was more than a traditionโit was a symbolic rite of passage, celebrating the studentsโ hard work, perseverance, and commitment to the nursing profession. As they don their caps and badges, these future nurses are now ready to step into their clinical duties, bringing light, care, and compassion to the communities they will serve.
