‎The Psychiatry Department successfully conducted its Strategic Planning on January 14, 2026, at Ysabelle’s Café. The session provided an opportunity to reflect on accomplishments, align priorities, and set a clear direction for strengthening mental health services and patient care in the year ahead.

‎This was attended by the representatives of the different units which include the Training Office, Social and Community Psychiatry, Out-Patient Department, Psychological Testing Services, Ward, and Nursing Service.

‎Together, we move forward with purpose, collaboration, and a shared commitment to excellence in mental health care.

We are pleased to welcome three new doctors to the Department of Psychiatry, further strengthening our commitment to delivering high-quality mental health care and services.

Joining our team is Dr. Mara Elize Calualhatian, a First-Year Resident, as she begins her training in Psychiatry and embark on her journey toward specialized medical practice.

We also warmly welcome Dr. Mariam Munabirul and Dr. Edward Bongalos from Medical Services. Their dedication and professionalism will be valuable additions to the department.

We look forward to their contributions to patient care, medical training, and the continued advancement of mental health services. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to the newest members of our Psychiatry team.

The Training Updates for the Department of Psychiatry were successfully conducted on January 12, 2026, at the Tzu Chi Conference Room. The session was presented by Dr. Sheila May Aduviso, Assistant Training Officer, who delivered important updates, guidance, and clarifications relevant to current and upcoming training initiatives. The activity was attended by Dr. Bernardo Conde, Interim Training Officer.

The session provided an opportunity to ensure alignment, enhance understanding, and reinforce standards essential to the effective implementation of our training programs. We extend our appreciation to all participants for their active engagement and continued commitment to professional development.

In line with our ongoing efforts to strengthen mental health services during emergencies, Dr. Van Samuel Calisang (Psychiatrist), Mr. Rolf Marcus Villano (Psychologist), and Mr. Roger Limbaga (Psychiatric Nurse) were deployed as part of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Team of the ZCMC Health Emergency Response Team.

From November 24–28, 2025, they served in Compostela, Cebu, providing critical mental health and psychosocial support to communities affected by Typhoon Tino. Their professionalism and dedication played a vital role in helping individuals and families manage the emotional and psychological impact of the disaster.

We commend their steadfast commitment to delivering timely, compassionate, and comprehensive care in emergency settings.
