“Many Filipinos lack full awareness of colorectal cancer, its risk factors, and screening options.”

RESEARCH | Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common and deadliest malignancies in the Philippines. However, it can be prevented or treated effectively when detected early through screening. This research examines the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of Filipinos regarding CRC screening.

It was found that many people in the community are not fully aware of CRC and its risk factors. For example, many did not know that screening tests like f***l occult blood tests and colonoscopies are available and can detect CRC before symptoms appear. Despite this, participants generally had a positive attitude toward the benefits of screening. Most were willing to participate in government-led screening programs but barriers such as cost, lack of awareness, and fear of the procedure discouraged many from following through.

This research underscores the urgent need to strengthen CRC screening in the Philippines, where participation rates remain low. It further highlights the importance of sustained educational campaigns and stronger government support to address identified barriers.

There is no need for routine bladder training after surgery in patients with short term indwelling urinary catheter even in Colorectal, OB-Gyne, and general surgery cases.

“Bladder training by clamping indwelling urinary catheters increases the incidence of urinary tract infection and lengthens the hours to first void in patients with indwelling urinary catheters use durations of ≤7 days compared with the free drainage.”

This is the latest meta-analysis on this topic.

Quick facts from Scoolam Foundation.
______________________________________

Your brain gets all the credit...
But the real unsung hero of your body?
👉 Your colon and re**um, the silent cleaners working 24/7.

Every single day, they handle liters of food waste, absorb precious water, balance your gut bacteria, and even talk to your brain through a secret nerve network called the gut-brain axis 🧠💬

When this system slows down, you feel it everywhere:
😣 Constipation.
🥱 Fatigue.
🤕 Headaches.
Even mood swings.

That’s how powerful your gut really is.
It’s not just about digestion, it’s about your energy, mood, and overall health.

💡 Fun Fact:
Your colon holds over 100 trillion bacteria, and 90% of your body’s serotonin (the happy hormone) is made in your gut, not your brain.
