LAUREN BY RALPH LAUREN
There was a story I heard about my mother’s cousin, who would sneak into her bedroom to spritz on some of her perfume. Years later, when this cousin was already successful working as a nurse abroad, she confessed that she used to spray on some of the perfume and offered to buy my mother any perfume that she wanted. Cousin came home with my mother’s request, but sadly, the original perfume that they both shared was discontinued.
It was Lauren by Ralph Lauren, hugely popular in the 80’s. I’ve learned that RL stopped producing it, but also read through some comments that there’s a cult following just waiting to hoard this perfume. I hope RL listens, even just for this season.
Released in 1978, this fragrance became a favorite among women in the ’80s. Lauren by Ralph Lauren is a Floral Green perfume crafted by Bernard Chant and Nicholas Calderone. Its composition opens with fresh Green Notes, Clary Sage, Brazilian Rosewood, and Pineapple; transitions into a heart of Lilac, Lily-of-the-Valley, Cyclamen, Bulgarian Rose, Jasmine, and Violet; and settles into a base of Carnation, Oakmoss, Cedar, Sandalwood, and Vetiver.
As one of Ralph Lauren’s first two fragrance launches—and his debut scent for women—Lauren presents an elegant floral bouquet highlighted by green top notes and a soft, powdery blend of woods and spices in the drydown. The classic trio of rose, carnation, and violet defines its heart, and the bottle was designed by Ben Kotyuk.
