The Career Executive Service (CES) eligibility is a highly esteemed qualification for holding high-level, executive, and managerial positions in the Philippine government, attained by passing a rigorous four-stage process administered by the Career Executive Service Board (CESB).

We extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Titina Anni Faraown, who received her CES eligibility last May 2025 and the pinning ceremony was held during the recent CES Convention at the Manila Hotel on November 12, 2025.

This honor crowns a career built on commitment, integrity, and service. Dr. Titina is now on her second term as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology (2023–present), after previously leading from 2017–2019. Her track record — from Assistant Training Officer (2013), Training Officer (2014–2016), to Research Coordinator (2020–2022) — reflects a leader who continually invests in her team, her trainees, and our institution.

Her influence extends beyond the department through her past roles as Zamboanga City Medical Society President (2018) and PSA–Western Mindanao Chapter President (2012–2013).

We are honored to work alongside a leader whose example motivates us to strive for excellence every day.

Congratulations to our newest Diplomate
Dr. Krisha Bajala-Flores, conferred Oct 27, 2025. To add to that, her research paper "The Prevalence of Preoperative and Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction among Elderly Patients who underwent General Anesthesia at the Zamboanga City Medical Center" was accepted for presentation at the World Congress of Anesthesiology 2026 to be held in Morocco. She will be accompanied by her adviser and co-author Dr. Titina Anni Faraown.

On Oct 30, Dr. Kim-Girl Hadja under the guidance of her consultant adviser Dr. Zaida Aminulla presented a case entitled "When Light Sparks Danger - Safeguarding the Airway During Laser Surgery" during the PSA Monthly Video Case Conference. The presentation was insightful. It showcased the complexities of the procedure erstwhile highlighting both prevention and management of airway fire. The conference was moderated by Dr. Jaybee Bazan and the resource speaker was Dr. Maan Hilvano of the UP-PGH.

Congratulations to our residents for landing in the Top 4 of the annual PSA hosted Tagisan ng Talino 2025 after a tie breaker for 3rd place! This year's team lead by Training Officer Dr. Miriam Elaine A. Tiblani and Dr. Eldonn Lubguban were Dr. Kimberly Ku (3rd yr), Dr. Rolland Mallarez (2nd yr), and Dr. Vanessa Joy Valdez (1st yr).

This year's event was held November 8, 2025 at the Hilton Hotel, Newport, Pasay City!

The Manuel V. Silao Award for Leadership in Anesthesiology, recognizes outstanding anesthesiologists who have made considerable contributions to Anesthesiology, have been in practice for at least 15 years, and must have exceptional qualities in the following areas: Effectiveness, Innovation, Unification, Mentorship. This year, our very own, Dr. Jaybee Dagalea Bazan was awarded this prestigious honor by the Philippine Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc. on Oct. 24, 2025 at the Marriott Hotel, Manila.

Dr. Jaybee D. Bazan, is an active consultant of the ZCMC Department of Anesthesiology and was the Chairman of the department from 2020-2022. He is the current Dean of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Medicine. He had served the PSA as Regional Director for Mindanao from 2018-2019 and had served as President of the Western Mindanao Chapter prior to this.

This weekend the Department of Anesthesiology attended to 24 patients needing gynecologic surgery at the Zamboanga City Medical Center. This is the second mission this year that the Department had rendered invaluable service, going beyond the call of duty, and extending work hours in the name of service. The first was held in February in cooperation with California Medical Mission and the ZCMC Department of Surgery. This time with the ZCMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
