ZPMCI Department of Family and Community Medicine underwent a successful accreditation visit on September 13, 2025. The accreditation, a crucial step for maintaining the quality of the ZPMCI residency training program, was conducted by accreditors from the Philippine Association of Family Physicians (PAFP).

The accreditation team was composed of esteemed PAFP members, including Dr. Alfonso Syoie Yoshida and Dr. Evangeline Santiago. Present during the visit were the department's residents and the training core members, led by Department Chair Dr. Joseph S. Llenado and Training Officer Dr. Christine Marie Gapoy-Yu. The accreditors meticulously reviewed the department's facilities, curriculum, faculty qualifications, and the residents' training logs to ensure the program meets the highest national standards.

The accreditation process is vital for ensuring that residency training programs produce competent and well-rounded family physicians. A program's accreditation status confirms its commitment to providing a structured curriculum, comprehensive patient exposure, and a supportive learning environment, all essential for shaping the next generation of doctors.

ZPMC's Department of Family and Community Medicine continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to its trainees. This success of this accreditation is a testament to the department's hard work and dedication to its residents and the community it serves. It solidifies ZPMC's role as a leading institution for medical education in the region.

The ZPMCI Department of Family and Community Medicine hosted a lecture on Cancer Screening recommendations led by Dr. Anne Camille Yuga-Florendo, Breast and Surgical Oncology Specialist and Dr. Daniel Ernest Florendo, Pediatric Surgery Specialist. This activity primarily aimed to familiarize the participants with the screening recommendations for various cancers and to discuss interventions which can improve surgical outcomes.

The lecture was attended by the members of the ZPMCI Department of Family and Community Medicine on September 17, 2025 at the Family Medicine Conference Room.

The ZPMCI Department of Family and Community Medicine consultants, led by Dr. Joseph Llenado (Chairman) and Dr. Christine Yu (Training Officer), participated in the 37th Annual Convention of the Foundation for Family Medicine Educators, Inc., held at The Marison Hotel, Legazpi City, Bicol.

This year’s theme, “Advancing Family and Community Medicine Education: Strengthening the Integration of Patient, Family, and Community Health in Training,” underscored the importance of a holistic approach to medical education.

The convention featured a series of insightful discussions focused on enhancing residency training programs and curricula through a patient-centered, family-focused, and community-oriented framework. Equally emphasized was the mental health and well-being of both residents and consultants, reflecting the growing recognition of wellness as an integral part of effective medical education.
