💥 RARE, COMPLEX, AND UNFORGETTABLE 💥
Last August 14, 2025, the 12th P*P ZAMBASULTA INTERHOSPITAL GRAND ROUNDS lit up the Garden Orchid Hotel with a case that took us off the map:
🫁 CASE SPOTLIGHT:
A rare and complex journey of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) with metastasis to the pelvic adnexa, uterus, fallopian tubes, and peritoneum, along with an EGFR mutation shift from Exon 19 deletion to Exon 21 L858R mutation.
🔍 Why this case stood out:
• Lung carcinoma remains the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide.
• While the brain, bones, liver, and lymph nodes are usual metastatic sites, pelvic organ spread and peritoneal carcinomatosis are almost unheard of.
• The case underscored the importance of precise diagnosis, adaptable management strategies, and targeted therapy grounded on histopathologic and molecular profiling.
💡 This round brought to life the core qualities of a good internist:
• Sharp diagnostic thinking — seeing patterns beyond the obvious.
• Clinical mastery — balancing complexity with evidence-based care.
• Whole-patient perspective — not just treating the disease, but caring for the person.
• Flexibility in management — adjusting when the clinical landscape shifts.
• Empathy — honoring the patient’s journey.
• Team spirit — working seamlessly with a multidisciplinary team for the patient’s best outcome.
👏 Hats off to our outstanding presenter, Dr. ZHAMEHA RHEZAM I. HAMSAIN of IM –Zamboanga City Medical Center, for her clear, well-structured, and confident presentation of this extraordinary case.
🎤 Salute to Dr. Nelson A. Laja Nelson Nels, our engaging and dynamic moderator, who steered the discussion with the perfect balance of focus, energy, and thought-provoking questions, keeping both the panel and audience actively involved.
🙌 And to our powerhouse Reactors:

💙 More than an academic exchange, this session showed what happens when skill, curiosity, and collaboration meet: better knowledge, stronger teamwork, and ultimately, better care for our patients.
