𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐄 𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐘 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐓
𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐓 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 ?

Being 1–2 mm short of the radiographic apex doesn’t mean you’re not violating the peri-apical tissue.

This brings us to two important questions:

𝟭. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁?
𝟮. 𝗜𝘀 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶-𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲?

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 : the true endpoint is the cemento-dentinal junction (𝐂𝐃𝐉) which cannot be identified by your tactile sense or seen on the X-ray , 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐱 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐢𝐭.

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 : which might be more important is whether overfilling particularly gutta-percha extrusion from 3D obturation could lead to complications or even treatment failure?

𝐋𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐱 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.

𝐇𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫, with a quick look at the literature, a study by Yousuf et al. (2015) reported a success rate of 89.8% in overfilled cases.
𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 , 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐱 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 .

Also permanent restoration can be placed immediately in overfilled cases with no need for re-treatment just regular follow-up.

These wedge-shaped grooves near the gumline are called abfraction lesions—a type of non-carious cervical lesion (NCCL). They're caused by tooth flexure from grinding (bruxism) or a misaligned bite, which creates microfractures in enamel and dentin. Over time, abrasive brushing or acidic exposure can worsen the damage. Even if painless, they weaken tooth structure, trap plaque, and may lead to sensitivity or fractures. Treatment involves correcting bite forces (e.g., night guard), gentle brushing, and possibly restoring the area with composite or glass ionomer. Early management preserves tooth health, prevents complications, and avoids more invasive treatments later.

Recent studies from cities like Calgary (Canada) and Juneau (Alaska) show a clear rise in cavities among children after fluoride was removed from drinking water. In Calgary, kids in Grade 2 developed more tooth decay compared to nearby cities that kept using fluoride. In Juneau, dental treatments and costs increased after fluoride was stopped.

Fluoride helps protect teeth and prevent cavities. It’s a safe and low-cost public health solution, especially for children. While some people worry about fluoride's effect on IQ, strong scientific research confirms that fluoride at recommended levels is safe and effective.

Removing fluoride may seem like a small step, but it can lead to big problems like more dental disease and higher treatment costs. That’s why experts recommend keeping fluoride in public water supplies to protect children’s teeth and prevent unnecessary suffering. It’s a proven way to keep communities healthier.

Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body — not bone:

The problem? Your mouth is a bustling ecosystem that's home to over 300 different species of bacteria in dental plaque alone.

And although your tooth enamel is the hardest substance in your body, it can't withstand so much bacteria.

Tooth decay, also known as cavities, is caused by a buildup of plaque on the teeth.

Plaque forms when bacteria mix with food particles and saliva, creating a sticky film that clings to the surface of your teeth. Regular brushing and flossing are essential to keeping this bacterial community in check.

Dentures Used to be Made From Dead People's Teeth:

Teeth from the recently deceased, often soldiers who had died in battle, were considered valuable due to their relatively healthy condition.

Most soldiers tend to be rather young, after all.

The teeth would be removed, cleaned, and fitted into a base made from materials like ivory to create dentures.

One famous example is after the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, where thousands of fallen soldiers' teeth were collected and sold to dentists, earning them the nickname "Waterloo teeth."

Fortunately, modern dentistry has advanced significantly, and today’s dentures are made from acrylic, porcelain, or resin, eliminating the need for such macabre methods.
