☑️ RADIAL NERVE PALSY
Radial nerve palsy, also known as Saturday night palsy or dropped wrist, is a condition that affects the radial nerve and if damage to this nerve occurs, weakness, numbness and an inability to control the muscles served by this nerve may result. The radial nerve runs from the upper arm to the wrist and fingers. This nerve controls movement and sensation in the arm and hand and extension of the elbow, wrist and fingers.

🔘 SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
▪️Numbness from the triceps down to the fingers.
▪️Problems extending the wrist or fingers.
▪️Pinching and grasping problems.
▪️Weakness or inability to control muscles from the triceps down to the fingers.
▪️Wrist drop (also known as wrist drop wrist syndrome) – when the wrist hangs limply and the patient cannot lift it.

🔘 CAUSES OF RADIAL NERVE PALSY
▪️Pressure Injuries
▪️Fractures or Dislocations
▪️Infection or Inflammation

🔘 RISK FACTORS
▪️Gender: Radial nerve palsy is more common in men than women.
▪️Occupational risks: Jobs that require repetitive motion and awkward postures or working positions may increase the risk of radial nerve palsy.
▪️Other injuries: Broken bones, joint dislocations, significant bruises and injuries requiring the use of crutches can increase a person’s risk for radial nerve palsy.

🔘 TREATMENT
▪️Physical Therapy
Exercises to strengthen your muscles and increase your range of motion.
▪️Splint or Cast
A splint or cast can support the wrist and hand while the radial nerve heals.
▪️Radial Nerve Surgery
Physician may recommend surgery to remove a cyst, tumor or broken bone pressing on the nerve or repair the nerve itself.
▪️Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
This therapy applies a gentle electric current to the muscles and may help reduce pain.

🔴 Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a group of permanent disorders that affect movement, muscle tone, and coordination. It is the most common motor disability in childhood, affecting approximately 2-3 per 1,000 births.

✅️ Types of Cerebral Palsy
⭕️ Spastic Cerebral Palsy: Characterized by increased muscle tone, stiffness, and awkward movements.
⭕️Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy: Characterized by involuntary movements, such as tremors or jerky movements.
⭕️ Ataxic Cerebral Palsy: Characterized by difficulty with coordination and balance.
⭕️ Mixed Cerebral Palsy: A combination of two or more of the above types.
⭕️ Hypotonic Cerebral Palsy: Characterized by decreased muscle tone and floppiness.

✅️ Causes of Cerebral Palsy
⭕️ Preterm birth
⭕️ Low birth weight
⭕️ Infections during pregnancy
⭕️ Birth asphyxia
⭕️ Genetic mutations
⭕️ Head trauma

✅️Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy
⭕️ Muscle weakness or stiffness
⭕️ Poor coordination and balance
⭕️ Spasticity
⭕️ Ataxia
⭕️ Dyskinesia
⭕️ Speech and language difficulties
⭕️ Cognitive impairments

✅️ Physical Therapy Treatment for Cerebral Palsy
⭕️ Early intervention: Physical therapy should begin as early as possible, ideally in infancy.
⭕️ Individualized treatment plans: Tailored to the child's specific needs and goals.
⭕️ Mobility training: To improve walking, running, or transferring.
⭕️ Strength training: To enhance muscle strength and endurance.
⭕️ Flexibility exercises: To improve range of motion and reduce spasticity.
⭕️ Balance and coordination training: To enhance overall mobility and independence.
⭕️ Assistive device training: To learn how to use walkers, wheelchairs, or other devices to enhance mobility.
⭕️ Family education and support: To empower families to support their child's physical therapy goals.

What is Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a common condition characterized by stiffness, limited mobility, and pain in the shoulder joint. It occurs when the connective tissue surrounding the shoulder joint becomes inflamed and scarred, leading to a loss of range of motion.

⭕️Causes of Frozen Shoulder
☑️ Injury or trauma: A fall or direct blow to the shoulder can cause frozen shoulder.
☑️ Overuse or repetitive strain: Repetitive movements or overuse of the shoulder joint can lead to inflammation and scarring.
☑️ Medical conditions: Certain conditions, such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, or autoimmune diseases, can increase the risk of developing frozen shoulder.
☑️ Aging: Frozen shoulder is more common in people over 40 years old.
☑️ Immobility: Prolonged immobility or lack of use of the shoulder joint can contribute to frozen shoulder.

⭕️Symptoms of Frozen Shoulder
☑️ Pain and stiffness: Pain and stiffness in the shoulder joint, which can worsen at night.
☑️ Limited mobility: Reduced range of motion in the shoulder joint, making it difficult to lift, rotate, or move the arm.
☑️ Loss of function: Difficulty performing daily activities, such as dressing, grooming, or reaching for objects.
☑️ Swollen or tender shoulder: Swelling, tenderness, or redness in the shoulder area.

⭕️Physical Therapy Treatment for Frozen Shoulder
⭕️Goals of Physical Therapy
☑️ Improve range of motion: Increase flexibility and mobility in the shoulder joint.
☑️ Reduce pain and inflammation: Manage pain and inflammation through gentle exercises and modalities.
☑️ Improve strength and function: Enhance strength and function in the shoulder muscles.

⭕️Physical Therapy Interventions
☑️ Pendulum exercises: Gentle swinging motions to improve range of motion.
☑️ Wall slides: Sliding the arm up a wall to improve flexion and extension.
☑️ External rotation exercises: Rotating the arm outward to improve external rotation.
☑️ Scapular stabilization exercises: Strengthening the scapular muscles to improve shoulder stability.
☑️ Modalities: Applying heat, cold, or electrical stimulation to reduce pain and inflammation.
