This page is created to bring awareness to the fact that there is a huge lack of rheumatologists in Peshawar and KPK. Current research suggests that Rheumatoid arthritis must be treated within 3 months of the first time someone gets joint pain, swelling and early morning stiffness in their joints. Otherwise 50% can get joint damage permanently. This means long term disability. There are 200 types of arthritis. Most are not even recognised, diagnosed or treated. So my aspirations are to start a rheumatology department in Peshawar. I have trained in first Gen med then specifically in rheumatology for many years. I've won a scholarship to do Rheumatology research. I have spoken in the European and the American Conferences., published papers, helped create databases for collection of research information and performed clinical and Lab research myself. I have also trained to perform Musculoskeletal ultrasound. I've trained extensively in the speciality and work as a lecturer in rheumatology. I also do very specialised clinics in Lupus with one of the worlds greatest rheumatologists in the field, and specialised clinics in Pregnant women with Rheumatic diseases. I now want to help patients and to educate medical students much much better in this field and to do research to get our future doctors experienced before they compete with the world. I hope to work with people for our great city and province. I welcome any positive feedback or questions. At present in the whole of Pakistan there are less than 20 full time and Pure Rheumatologists altogether. Many of these deal with Rheumatology only as a 'special interest' or occasionally beside their main specialty. According to WHO figures with a population of 170 million Pakistan needs 1700 Rheumatologists but has more near 17. We will not be able to plug the gap alone and request for anyone who can help me and all those patients out there to come join us !
