PCOS: What You Need To Know

Polycystic o***y syndrome, also known as PCOS, is a disorder that affects the endocrine system. Roughly 7-10% of childbearing age in the U.Pakistan havethis is disorder. It also known as a very common cause of infertility.

What Causes It?

The underlying cause of this disorder is not fully understood, but there are a number of factors that are believed to increase the risk of having it. These include having an excess amount of insulin, having mothers or sisters who have it and having low-grade inflammation. When you have this disorder, your ovaries produce higher amounts of androgen hormones than normal. This leads to symptoms, such as acne, hair growth on your face, stomach and other areas, ovulation problems and weight gain.

How Does It Affect Fertility?

This disorder can cause the ovaries to produce low amounts of hormones that are needed for eggs to mature. When this happens, ovulation might not occur and your menstrual cycle can become irregular. If you have PCOS and you are trying to get pregnant, your doctor might recommend fertility medications, such as clomiphene, metformin or gonadotropins. These medications stimulate ovulation, which can help increase your chance of conceiving. In vitro fertilization, or IVF, is another option for infertility caused by polycystic o***y syndrome. This process involves harvesting eggs and fertilizing them in a lab dish with s***m from your partner or a donor. Your doctor will discuss fertility treatments with you after confirming that PCOS is interfering with your ability to conceive.

03/11/2022

For certain couples who are facing infertility, Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) can increase the likelihood of getting pregnant normally. Intrauterine insemination is a medical procedure that helps to treat infertility. In this, s***m is directly placed inside a woman’s uterus to promote fertilization. It is a way of increasing the number of healthy s***ms that reaches fallopian tubes.
Though IUI makes it possible for s***m to reach fallopian tubes, it still has to reach and fertilize the egg. The goal of IUI is to achieve pregnancy, which is possible if the s***m fertilizes the egg and egg implants properly on the uterus.
IUI is also known as ‘artificial insemination’. When compared to IVF, it is a minimum invasive and affordable procedure.
When is IUI Treatment Recommended?
There are many reasons for which you might consider IUI. The path of parenthood comes with many treatment options, which might make you worry more, but remember every approach is valid.
Various factors can cause infertility. However, IUI can be used as a fertility treatment in the following conditions.

Unexplained infertility -IUI is advised in unexplained infertility along with medications that induce ovulation.

Infertility due to endometriosis -during endometriosis by giving medication for healthy egg production and opting for IUI can increase the chances of conception.

Infertility due to cervical issues -scarring or mucosal problems can be the reason for infertility. IUI bypasses the cervix and allows the s***ms to enter into the uterus directly, thus increases the number of s***ms available for fertilization.

The male-factor causing infertility -During low s***m count, decreased s***m motility, or ej*******on problems, IUI can be used. IUI allows choosing healthy motile s***ms that increases the chances of fertilization.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) Procedure/technique
IUI is a painless, non-invasive procedure, and it can also be done with your natural cycle without using medication. During your ovulation, s***ms collected from your partner are used for IUI.
However, IUI can also be combined with ovarian stimulation medications such as human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and follicular stimulating hormone (FSH). This results in the production and release of multiple eggs, increasing the chances of conception.
Your fertility clinic and the doctor will have specific instructions to follow for the IUI procedure.

You may have to visit your fertility clinic during menstruation for the blood test, ultrasound, and to receive instructions about medications.

If medications are needed, you will be advised to start your medications during your menstrual cycle.

After a week, you will be called for an ultrasound and blood test.

Depending on your test results, you will be called to examine if you are ovulating, which is after 10 to 15 days of starting your medications.

Semen samples from your partner will be collected on the day of the procedure or well before, and stored.

Sperms will be washed to remove seminal fluid and other debris.

IUI does not require anesthesia; it is a quick procedure and is less painful.

You will be made to lie down. Your doctor will use a speculum to open the va**na gently.

The s***ms will be inserted into the uterus using a long and thin tube.

You will be advised to relax in a reclined position for about thirty minutes.

You might experience slight discomfort or mild cramping during the procedure. Sometimes spotting or va**nal bleeding is also seen.

You will be asked to take a pregnancy test two weeks after the IUI procedure.

Risks Associated with IUI

There might be chances of infection, but an experienced doctor takes all precautionary measures using sterile instruments to avoid any infection. If you are taking fertility medication during IUI, there are chances of multiple pregnancies. Your fertility doctor will adjust the medication and keep monitoring you to avoid any complications.
You may experience Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome when there is an over-response to fertility medication. Consult your doctor if you experience these symptoms;

Nausea and vomiting

Shortness of breath

Severe abdominal pain or pain in the pelvic area

Dizziness or lightheadedness

Bloating of the abdomen

Diarrhea

Pros of IUI

Fewer medications needed

Less expensive

Less Invasive

Cons of IUI

Addresses few infertility issues

Low success rate

Not as effective as IVF in decreasing the chances of miscarriages

Multiple pregnancies can lead to high-risk pregnancy

Success Rate

IUI success depends on several factors. Your age, cause of infertility, and medications used can influence the success of the IUI procedure. The success rate ranges from 10 to 20 percent, depending on other health factors. If you don’t conceive through IUI, your fertility doctor may recommend In vitro fertilization (IVF) which has a better success rate.

Bottom Line

It is not possible to predict anything when it comes to infertility. But by having an open discussion with your doctor and by understanding your health and infertility issues, you can find some solution. Intrauterine insemination is a painless, non-invasive, low-risk, and affordable procedure that has helped many couples to conceive. If you are facing infertility issues and want to know if IUI is the right choice for you, then consulting a fertility doctor can help. By analyzing your health and cause of infertility, your doctor can determine if you can consider IUI

2 Months Pregnant: Symptoms and Fetal Development

At two months pregnant, you might be feeling overwhelmed, excited, worried, happy — or all of the above, and more. That’s pregnancy for you! There’s no doubt you’ll have a lot on your mind this month. Read on to learn more about common pregnancy symptoms, how your baby is developing during the coming weeks, and what else is in store for you at two months pregnant.
Common Pregnancy Symptoms at 2 Months Pregnant
At two months pregnant, some commonly experienced pregnancy symptoms include:
• Morning sickness. Pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting often strikes between week four and week nine. Contrary to popular belief, morning sickness can hit at any time of day, not just in the morning. It might help to maintain a balanced diet, staying away from greasy and spicy foods, and to go for smaller, more frequent meals. When you wake up in the morning, try eating some plain crackers before getting out of bed to help stabilize your blood sugar levels. Rest, stay hydrated, and sip ginger ale or ginger tea to calm your stomach. Not all moms-to-be experience morning sickness, but if you do, take some comfort in the fact that it frequently subsides by the time you reach the second trimester. If your symptoms are particularly bad, speak to your healthcare provider as it could be a sign of a more severe form of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum.
• Mood changes. Don’t be surprised if you’re a bit more emotional than usual. Your body is experiencing a surge of hormones, which can lead to some wild shifts in your emotions. Your moods might also fluctuate based on how you’re feeling physically or mentally. For example, if you have morning sickness and this is making you feel uncomfortable and stressed, then it’s natural to feel down from time to time.
• Food aversions. Certain foods, or even smells, that you once enjoyed can start to seem unappealing and may even trigger nausea now that you’re pregnant. If you find your tastes have changed, it’s OK to stick to blander foods until your appetite returns (usually in the second trimester). Just make sure to speak to your healthcare provider about ways to keep up a healthy diet if certain foods are off the menu temporarily. You can also download our guide to nutrition during pregnancy for some helpful tips.
• Heartburn and indigestion. Pregnancy hormones can also relax the valve that connects your stomach and esophagus. When this happens, stomach acid can leak into the esophagus, causing this uncomfortable symptom. Spicy or fried foods are best avoided if you suffer from heartburn.
• Constipation. Feeling a little backed up can be a normal symptom of early pregnancy. Constipation may be caused by the hormone progesterone, which can slow digestion. Your prenatal vitamins can also lead to constipation if they contain a lot of iron. Staying hydrated and active can help, though.
• Bloating. You might be familiar with this symptom from your monthly menstrual cycle, but it can also crop up as an early sign of pregnancy. As usual, blame it on hormones if your jeans are now fitting a little bit tighter than normal.
• Fatigue. Being pregnant takes a lot of energy, so it’s perfectly normal to feel worn out or just more sleepy than usual. Rest when you can, even if this means saying “no” to a few things. A healthy diet and moderate exercise can sometimes give you a little energy boost. Plus, take comfort in the fact that many moms-to-be say their energy levels increase in the next trimester.

How Is Your Baby Developing This Month?
This month, your little one starts to develop a tiny nose, mouth, and ears. Eyelids have formed, and they’ll stay fused shut until the latter part of the second trimester. There’s also some important organ development happening this month. Your little one’s lungs now connect to the throat with breathing tubes. Like the lungs, the heart still has a lot of growing to do, but it’s now beating about 105 beats per minute — how about that! The amniotic sac is now developed and filled with amniotic fluid. Its important job is to house and protect your little one from now until birth. That’s not all! At the end of week eight, or approximately the end of your second month, there’s another exciting milestone: Your little one graduates from an embryo to a fetus, in medical terms, that is.
How Big Is Your Baby When You’re 2 Months Pregnant?
At the end of you being two months pregnant, your baby’s size could be about half an inch long, or in other words about the size of a raspberry.
What Does a Fetus Look Like at 2 Months?
Check out these illustrations for a glimpse at what your baby might look like when you’re two months pregnant:

2 Months Pregnant: Your Body’s Changes
Don’t expect to see too much of a belly bump at two months pregnant. At this stage, your body probably won’t look dramatically different. (Read more about when you might start showing.) What you might notice, though, is that in addition to some sensitivity and soreness, your breasts may look fuller. If your pre-pregnancy weight was within the normal BMI range, your healthcare provider may recommend a target weight gain of 25 to 35 pounds during your pregnancy, and at least two of these pounds will likely be gained by your breasts. Over the course of the first trimester, you are likely to gain about one to five pounds. Try our Weight Gain Calculator to learn how much weight you may be advised to gain during the rest of your pregnancy. Your healthcare provider is your go-to resource for advice about healthy weight gain and nutrition during pregnancy. Usually, you’ll only need to add about 300 extra calories to your diet each day, but this amount may increase later in your pregnancy. Your provider will be able to advise you based on your specific situation.
How Far Along Are You at 2 Months Pregnant?
At two months pregnant, you’re well into the first trimester, which spans week 1 to week 13. If you’re wondering how many weeks two months pregnant is, the answer can vary somewhat because weeks don't fit evenly into months, and you could be at the start or the end of your second month. So, you may want to think of two months pregnant as covering week five through week eight.
Checklist for When You’re 2 Months Pregnant
• If you haven’t already, find out when you’ll get to meet your little one. Your healthcare provider will likely be able to give you an estimated due date at your first or next prenatal appointment; in the meantime, try our Due Date Calculator.
• Keep all of your prenatal appointments to make sure you and your little one are staying healthy.
• Focus on maintaining a healthy, balanced diet, and follow your healthcare provider's advice on starting or continuing to take prenatal vitamins.

TIPS FOR A HAPPY AND HEALTHY PREGNANCY

Tips For a Happy and Healthy Pregnancy

The path from conception to delivery is rarely experienced as a straight line. Pregnancy can bring what looks like endless waves of pain, pain, nausea, swollen ankles … the works! But it can also be a joyful time, in which future mum has the ultimate ‘excuse’ to do some serious self-care.OBGY Diagnostics has the best doctors have extensive experience in the field of gynecology. It may often feel that your wish to get pregnant is out of your hands (your body changes before your eyes and when will that baby finally come?!?!), But you can gain control of your health and happiness during this special time by following these tips :

Stay Active

Exercise is not only good for mothers, but also for developing babies! Research has shown that moving during pregnancy can benefit both the heart of a mother and the heart of a baby. Listen to your body and make sure you are gentle. Keep in mind that this time you don’t have to be focused to get in the best shape of your life, you are just focused on staying active. With the approval of your doctor (of course) you can try:

Walking. You can choose to do this outside or on a treadmill. Running helps to strengthen muscles and can improve your mood.

Swimming. This is one of the best exercises that you can do because it is soft on the joints and relieves swollen ankles. If you feel too heavy to even get started with a training program, the weightlessness of swimming can be a good supplement for you.

Prenatal yoga. This strengthens the core muscles and relieves back pain. Prenatal yoga focuses on relaxation, which is great for pregnancy and if you are able to keep what you have learned during delivery, it can help enormously. Try to practice yoga and meditation for 30 minutes every day.

Aerobics with little impact. Aerobics keeps your heart and lungs strong while strengthening your body and giving you a boost to endorphins.

Eat a Balanced Diet

Try to maintain a healthy diet when you can and be sure that you are also very hydrated. Keep track of the amount of water you drink to make sure you hold at least 8 glasses a day (or create a sticker overview to practice for your future mamahood). Try to include a lot of fruits and vegetables in your diet, as well as daily portions of protein and cut back on caffeine on one coffee a day (or decaffeinated if you can).

Surround Yourself with Positive People

Stay away from negative people, thoughts, words and deeds, because who needs negative energy around them if they hope to bring a little person into a hopefully positive world? Stay focused on the good things around you by treating others in a friendly way, although this may be difficult to do if you are susceptible to mood changes during pregnancy!

Maintain a Journal

Record how you feel and collect your thoughts during your pregnancy with a diary. Focus on experiences such as the first kick, the first contraction, baby shower and everything that is positive during your pregnancy. Reserve a specific time to write every day. Don’t think, just write! You will be happy with the pregnancy memories and the journey that you have experienced when your baby arrives.

Treat Yourself

Make yourself spa appointments and try a prenatal massage. Although they may not be part of your normal routine, it is a good idea to use them to reduce stress. Frankly, if you take an hour for yourself to put on a face mask while watching Netflix, you have to go for it. The only thing that matters is that you give yourself a break!

Get Some Rest

You may feel more tired during pregnancy and also a little restless. Try to sleep on your side, especially during the third trimester. If you have trouble falling asleep, there are many ways in which you can relax before bed during your pregnancy. Try these relaxation techniques:

Yoga

Tensioning

Deep breathing

Massage

Why wait until you are pregnant to take the time of your day to take care of your health? If you are pregnant or expect to become pregnant, start these steps immediately. If you have any questions, make an appointment with us by calling 0344-2911991 or visit us today at Maryam Gynae Clinic Chunian
