THYROID disease treatable in homoeopathy
One of the fastest growing disorders in modern times is the malfunction of the Thyroid. The statistics show that the Thyroid condition is the most under-diagnosed health problem. There are millions of people suffering from Thyroid problems, but only a few out of those are diagnosed and treated, see positive results using Thyroid medications. Often the Thyroid levels appear normal with lab, yet the individuals struggle with the symptoms of Thyroid problem. The Thyroid is one of several glands in the endocrine system, located in the front of the neck. The glands of the endocrine system control many of the body’s functions through chemical substances called hormones. The hormones produced by the Thyroid gland regulate how the body cells use energy and how fast the body’s metabolism work. This gland also affects the rate of growth of the hair and bones, the body over weight, temperature and energy level as well as the function of the heart and digestive system.

Homeopathy Treatment for Thyroid:
Conventional treatment for Thyroid disease involves a lifelong medication or painful process. Although there are many alternative treatments, among all those treatments Thyroid treatment in Homeopathy is a good way to opt because it will have no side effects and also a painless procedure to control and get relief. While in homeopathy, we propose to treat the problem not by supplementing the deficiencies or surplus, but by reactivation of efficient Thyroid glandular function. Our immune system is also under constant attack from toxins within air, water and food supply.
Patient’s Review

These pollutants, over-stimulate our immune system, create autoimmune reactions and damage Thyroid function. In Homeopathy we provide constitutional treatment which focuses on improving the function of the Thyroid gland by natural means. The constitutional remedies will stimulate the body to reactivate Thyroid secretions. In our Thyroid treatment we will help to boost energy, improve circulation and thereby help balancing hypo as well as hypothyroid functions. It may be also used as a supportive help for regulating both hypo and hyper thyroid functions.
Hypothyroidism:
Hypothyroidism is the most common hormone disease along with Diabetes Mellitus and female hormonal disturbances. Hypothyroidism is more commonly seen in women than men, but can affect all people and of all age groups. Hypothyroidism many a times it goes unnoticed and undiagnosed.

Hyper means over activity. Over activity of the thyroid gland is called as hyperthyroidism. The circulating thyroid hormones in body becomes more or excessive than sufficient and causes symptoms of hyperthyroidism.

What are The Types of Hyperthyroidism?
Hyperthyroidism is classified into 2 types based on the organ involved/ responsible for hyperthyroidism

Primary Hyperthyroidism :
Excessive thyroid hormones are produced Thyroid gland is at fault and is producing more than sufficient hormones, this type of hyperthyroidism is called as primary hyperthyroidism.

Secondary hyperthyroidism :
In Secondary Hyperthyroidism the defect is at the hypothalamus – pituitary axis and there is an excessive TSH production, which leads to increased stimulation of the thyroid gland and in-turn leads to increased production of T3 and T4 and leads to hyperthyroidism.

What are the causes of Hyperthyroidism?
Some common causes of hyperthyroidism are:
Graves’ Disease: The most common cause of hyperthyroidism is Graves disease, an autoimmune disease, leading to excessive production of thyroid hormones.
Functioning adenoma (“hot nodule”) and Toxic MultiNodular Goiter (TMNG): small growths in the thyroid gland are called as nodules, if these growths are many in number it is called as multi nodular goiter. And can be responsible for excessive secretion of thyroid hormones.
Abnormal secretion of TSH: a tumor in pituitary secretes excessive amounts of TSH, which stimulates the thyroid gland to secrete more thyroid hormones leading to Hyperthyroidism.
Thyroiditis (inflammation of the thyroid gland): inflammation of the thyroid gland leads to increased production of thyroid hormones leading to Hyperthyroidism.
Excessive intake of thyroid hormone supplements is a rare cause of Hyperthyroidism. If a patient of hypothyroidism who is not under regular follow up by a physician and continue to take the same dosage of supplement may be taking excessive amounts of thyroid hormone than required which causes Hyperthyroidism.
Excessive Iodine intake: although a rare case, ingestion of excessive iodine can lead to excessive production of thyroid hormones leading to hyperthyroidism.
What are the symptoms of Hyperthyroidism?
Unexplained changes in Weight.
Anxiety – Nervousness; and feeling agitated and increased irritability.
Intolerance to heat and feeling very hot.
Increased Appetite.
Exophthalmos – (external protrusion of the eyeball) especially in graves disease.
Increased/ frequent or loose bowel movements.
Hand Tremor.
Palpitation – Rapid or irregular heart beat.
Excessive sweating
Weakness, Fatigue or tired feeling.
Decreased concentration.
In women: me**es (periods) may be Irregular and can have scant menstrual flow.
All the symptoms mentioned may or may not be present in every person with hyperthyroidism, and the intensity of the symptoms varies from person to person and many a times may depend upon the severity of the disease.

What are the lab tests to detect Hyperthyroidism?
Diagnosis of Hyperthyroidism is mainly based on the results of thyroid hormone levels in the body. Generally Thyroid hormone (T3 and T4) levels in the body can be elevated or normal and Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level in the body is below normal in hyperthyroidism.
Anti TPO antibodies, anti-TSH-receptor antibodies testing is done to diagnose Graves disease and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.
If a nodule or infiltrative disease is suspected to be the cause of hyperthyroidism, an ultra sonography of the thyroid gland is performed. And a biopsy or needle biopsy is done to rule out cancer.
Iodine uptake scan is performed to check for iodine uptake by the thyroid gland, which is generally elevated in hyperthyroidism.

Dr. Cartier, of Paris, well says : "Nux vomica should never be given in constipation according to the law of similars in the low attenuations, or in the mother tincture. An opposite effect will be produced thereby, an augmentation of the spasmodic state of the intestines; the higher the dilution the better the chance for success. Nor should it be too often repeated."

James Tyler Kent was born on March 31, 1849 at Woodhull, New York. In 1873 he completed medical studies in allopathic, homeopathic, naturopathic and chiropractic at Institute of Eclectic Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio at the age of 25. But he had little regard for homeopathy.

In 1874 he married a Baptist like himself, settled in St. Louis and began practice. In 1876 he became the professor of anatomy at American College of St. Louis. During the same year, his wife became seriously ill and was cured by homeopath resulting in his complete and enthusiastic conversion to homeopathy.

In 1881 he accepted chair of professor of anatomy of the Homeopathic College of Missouri and then the chair of surgery. Stayed until 1888. In 1883 he became professor a of materia medica. In 1890 he became the Dean of Professors at Post-Graduate Homeopathic Medical School of Philadelphia through 1899.

During the same year, Kent lost his first wife, studied works of Swedenborg and adopted his philosophy. Kent met his second wife, Clara-Louise, a practicing physician and diagnosed her as having an incurable iatrogenic miasm of Lachesis due to too many repetitions of dose.

In 1896 Kent and his pupils saw over 18,800 patients in one year. From 1903 to 1909 he taught at Hahnemann Medical College, Chicago. In 1909 he became the Professor and dean of Hering Medical College and Hospital, Chicago.

In 1916 Kent went to his country home in Montana to rest and write a ‘real’ book but his catarrhal bronchitis turned to Bright’s disease and he died mostly from years of overwork. James Tyle Kent passed away on June 6 at Sunnyside Orchard, Montana.

Many homeopathic practitioners today still follow Kent’s early method of curing, which was to prescribe remedies using single doses of high potencies. When he taught, he would inspire his “Kentians” to use these higher potencies; and he held a strong belief that homeopaths must treat patients in their entirety, including the physical body, as well as the mental/emotional and spiritual elements, using these high potencies. Later in his career, however, Kent began using Hahnemann’s method of starting with low potencies and working up the scale by threes (6, 9, 12 etc.).

One of his greatest contributions to the profession of homeopathy, and its teachings, was his completely unique style of repertory. Although others exist, Kent’s famous repertory, The Great Repertory, is still the popular choice, and has been described as more complete, systematic and precise – with more well-described symptoms.

Kent is also known for developing “pictures” of constitutional types of patients. A well-known example would be his description of Sulphur as “the ragged philosopher.” There are many works based on Kent’s principles, including a book by one of his pupils, Margaret Tyler. Tyler further developed this idea of “pictures” into a book entitled Homeopathic Drug Pictures.

Kent is considered to have been a great homeopath; and his philosophy, homeopathic interpretations and influence have steadily continued to grow in popularity since his death.
