عید الاضحیٰ!

Today we remember the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim علیہ اسلام, not just his sacrifice, but the depth of his love for اللّٰہ. How he was willing to give up what he loved most, and how اللّٰہ returned it to him in a better form, and honoured him ten folds.

May this eid be a reminder that when we let go for the sake of اللّٰہ, we never lose. May our sacrifices be accepted, our dua'as answered, and our hearts filled with peace.

The brain directly influences the gut microbiome. And a new study shows it changes gut bacteria in just 2 hours.

In a surprising twist to the gut-brain connection, scientists have now shown that the brain can change the gut microbiome—and fast.

A new study in mice found that brain signals could alter the composition of gut bacteria within just two hours. This adds strong support to the idea that communication between the gut and brain is bidirectional, not just microbes affecting mood and cognition, but brain activity shaping the microbial ecosystem as well.

While researchers have long known that gut microbes can influence brain function and mental health, this study is one of the first to demonstrate that the brain can send rapid signals that reshape the microbiome.

The discovery could have major implications for understanding how stress, emotions, or neurological conditions might directly impact gut health. It also opens the door to new therapeutic strategies that target brain pathways to influence digestion, immunity, and overall wellness.

Children today can’t hold pencils, tie their shoes, or even hold a book.

Experts say screen time is to blame.

In fact, almost all children today are struggling with basic fine motor skills, new studies have found.

Researchers say the decline in hands-on activities — like crafting, outdoor play, and puzzles — has been being supplanted by screen time for years.

The problem? With screens replacing traditional playtime, kids are missing out on crucial movements that develop dexterity, patience, and focus.

To help reverse this decline, experts suggest incorporating fine motor activities into daily routines. Simple tasks like pouring drinks, buttoning shirts, and drawing with crayons can strengthen coordination. Encouraging outdoor exploration, building with blocks, and reducing passive screen time can also make a big difference.

A simple exercise like walking increases the size of your brain.

Having a sedentary lifestyle is basically a slow death sentence.

The groundbreaking study was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Researchers found that adults who walked for 40 minutes, three times a week, for a year experienced growth in the hippocampus — a region of the brain crucial for spatial memory.

In contrast, those who only engaged in stretching and toning exercises saw their hippocampus shrink.

Neuroscientist Arthur Kramer, one of the study’s authors, explains that physical activity promotes the birth of new neurons, which in turn enhances memory function. This research supports the idea that our evolutionary need for movement is deeply tied to cognitive health, reinforcing the importance of an active lifestyle for maintaining mental sharpness.

The study further challenges the common belief that brain exercises like crossword puzzles are the key to cognitive longevity.

While intellectual engagement does play a role, researchers, including psychologist Margaret Gatz, emphasize that physical activity is a stronger predictor of brain health. Additionally, factors such as midlife obesity and diabetes have been linked to increased risks of cognitive decline.

The takeaway? It’s never too late to start moving.

Even previously sedentary individuals in their 60s and 80s showed remarkable brain benefits from walking. So, if you're looking for an easy yet powerful way to support brain health, simply lacing up your sneakers and going for a walk might be the smartest move you can make.

The human body contains trace amounts of gold — but it doesn't stay inside us.

We excrete it through our skin and hair. Unfortunately, it's not enough to make you rich, and it is excreted on such a microscopic level that it’s impossible to notice or collect.

So, how much is inside you? On average, a human body that's around 150 pounds (68 kg) contains .2 milligrams of gold, most of which is found in the bloodstream.

Ultimately, this gold is naturally released through bodily processes like sweating, shedding skin cells, and hair growth.

The gold in your body plays no significant biological role but is present alongside other essential trace elements. Still, the idea that your body is constantly releasing specks of one of Earth’s most coveted metals is a fascinating and unexpected quirk of human biology.
