World Mental Health Day 2025 Seminar

“Strong leadership begins with a healthy mind,” a special seminar titled “Leadership and Well-being for Doctors” was held at Chenab Club, Faisalabad, to commemorate World Mental Health Day 2025.
The event brought together leading healthcare professionals from across Punjab to discuss the significance of mental health, emotional resilience, and leadership in medicine.
The seminar commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Aamir Shaukat, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of Medicine & Allied, FMU, who appreciated the department’s initiative to prioritize physician well-being and institutional leadership development.
Prof. Dr. Imtiaz Ahmad Dogar, Chief Organizer and Consultant Psychiatrist, delivered an inspiring talk on “Why to Care for Mental Health,” emphasizing that self-awareness and psychological care are essential foundations of effective leadership.
Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal, Principal, Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, Lahore, discussed the “Principles of Leadership,” highlighting communication, empathy, and adaptability as key traits of successful medical leaders.
Dr. Tooba Obeer, Consultant Psychiatrist, Department of Psychiatry, FMU, presented on “Care for the Carers,” underlining the importance of mental health support systems for healthcare providers.
Prof. Dr. Masood Ur Rauf Hiraj, President PMA Multan and Dean Surgical & Allied, Nishtar Medical University, Multan, reflected on “Crisis Leadership: Role of Doctors during Pandemics and Disasters,” drawing lessons from recent public health emergencies.
Prof. Dr. A. Farooq Rana, Professor of Surgery, AIMC Lahore, concluded with an engaging session on “Strategies to Avoid Burnout in Health Care Professionals,” providing practical approaches for self-regulation, teamwork, and institutional wellness.
The seminar featured a lively interactive Q&A session, where attendees—faculty, postgraduate trainees, and clinicians—discussed strategies for balancing professional responsibilities with self-care. Participants shared personal insights on coping mechanisms, leadership challenges, and fostering a culture of compassion in medical institutions.
In his closing note, Prof. Dr. Imtiaz Ahmad Dogar expressed gratitude to all speakers, participants, and collaborators. He reiterated that “true leadership lies not only in guiding others but also in nurturing one’s own mental strength and emotional well-being.”
The event concluded with a panel discussion and refreshment session, providing an excellent networking opportunity among healthcare professionals and fostering an atmosphere of positivity and collaboration.
