Speech Delay:
A child is developing speech more slowly than other kids their age.
• A child with speech delay understands what you say but has trouble using words to talk.
• They might start saying words later, use fewer words than expected, or have trouble putting words together into sentences.

For example:
• At age 2, most children can say about 50 words and put two words together (“more milk”).
• If a 2-year-old can only say a few words, we might call that a speech delay.

It’s different from a language delay:
• Speech delay = problem making the sounds and words.
• Language delay = problem understanding or putting ideas into words.
