The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it." Genesis 4:6-7
We have both good and bad habits and the choice is with us to let which kind of habit prevail. In perspective, our responsibility is to make sure that we are not ruled by bad habits but to get rid of them.
There are people who are stubborn and will do things based on their own whims and fancies. They loath people telling them what to do and do not favor people giving them advice. They never want to change and will show their displeasure if they are being reprimanded of their wrongdoings.
What Cain went through is a timely reminder for those who only think about themselves and are reluctant to listen to advice. At the end of the day, they live a miserable life.
God had no regard for Cain's offering but favored what his brother Abel offered. Instead of being thankful for the advice and made amend for the mistake, Cain showed his displeasure through his facial expression. God gave him a second chance but he did not take it. He went against the will of God and showed his discontent instead by killing his brother.
Those who are stubborn and are bent on doing the wrong thing will never live a prosperous life. When others are doing better than him, he becomes jealous of them and will feel revengeful.
Behold, God bless those who are humble, willing to take advice to change for the better. He will be like one whose root is planted by the stream of living water and will produce fruits in all seasons.
