To increase s***m count men can take note of the following:
● B12 deficiency reduces s***m counts and motility of s***m. If you supplement B12 it improves s***m counts in men.
●Zinc (Zn) works in hormone metabolism, s***m formation, and s***m motility. Zn deficiency decreases testosterone and s***m counts.
● Fiber: a low-fiber, high-fat diet is linked to higher levels of estrogens because estrogens excreted in bile are reabsorbed because they are not being bound by free fiber.
● Phytosterols: soy, other legumes, nuts, and seeds are good sources of phytosterols that aid steroid hormone synthesis, including testosterone.
● l-Carnitine: antioxidant with greatest amount of clinical research for treating male infertility. It is essential for transporting fatty acids into mitochondria; deficiency decreases fatty acid levels in mitochondria and reduces energy production. Carnitine levels are high in the epididymis and s***m. Epididymis gets most of its energy from fatty acids, as do s***m during transport through epididymis. After ej*******on, s***m motility correlates with carnitine content; the higher the carnitine content, the more motile the S***m. Carnitine deficit impairs s***m development, function, and motility.
● Arginine: required for replication of cells and essential in s***m formation. It may be an effective treatment of male infertility.
●Antioxidants (vitamin C, beta-carotene, selenium, vitamin E) protect s***m. Vitamin C protects s***m DNA. Ascorbate is much higher in seminal fluid compared with other body fluids, including blood. Low dietary vitamin C is likely to lead to infertility. Smoking reduces vitamin C throughout the body. S***m quality in smokers improves with ascorbate supplementation. Nonsmokers will benefit from vitamin C as much as smokers.
● Sources of oxidants: smoking and pollutants, linked to decreased s***m counts and motility plus increased levels of abnormal s***m.
