Special Talk on Postgraduate Education & Fellowship Opportunities in the USA
Isra University Hyderabad organized an informative and engaging session on Postgraduate Education and Fellowship Opportunities in the USA on 26 March 2026, aimed at guiding students, graduates, and young professionals interested in pursuing advanced medical education and international career pathways. The resource person was Prof. Dr. Abdul Ahad Kazi, Director, Kazi Ophthalmology, Anniston, Alabama, USA, and Clinical Assistant Professor at Tulane University School of Medicine, USA.
The event was held at Asadullah Kazi Auditorium and commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Umer Kazi, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Isra University Karachi Campus, who warmly welcomed the distinguished guest speaker and participants. He appreciated the guest speaker’s valuable contribution to academic excellence and professional mentorship. He emphasized the importance of global exposure, research involvement, and continuous professional development for healthcare professionals. He also acknowledged and appreciated the speaker’s effort in traveling from the USA to share his experiences and guide students on pathways to pursue medical careers abroad. The keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ahad Kazi, was honored with a traditional decoration ceremony in recognition of his distinguished services in the field of ophthalmology and medical education. He was presented with a Sindhi Ajrak and shield as a token of respect and appreciation.
During his talk, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ahad Kazi delivered an insightful and comprehensive presentation on postgraduate education and fellowship opportunities in the USA. He provided detailed guidance on eligibility criteria, examination pathways, research requirements, application procedures, and future career prospects. Furthermore, he elaborated on the structure and significance of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), outlining its three-step process and the strategic preparation required for success. He highlighted the importance of clinical electives, observerships, and obtaining strong letters of recommendation from reputable institutions in the USA. He also emphasized the critical role of research publications, extracurricular involvement, and well-crafted personal statements in building a competitive residency application. Drawing from his own professional journey, he shared valuable insights on adapting to the US healthcare system, overcoming challenges, and maintaining perseverance throughout this highly competitive process. The session concluded with an interactive question and answer segment, where participants actively engaged and sought guidance on their individual career paths.
The session also featured Success Stories and Eye Camp Highlights presented by Prof. Dr. Asif Mashood Qazi, Chairperson, Department of Ophthalmology, highlighting the achievements and community service initiatives carried out through the Free Eye Camp in the month of Ramadan. The presentation reflected the institution’s strong commitment to community welfare and provided insight into hands-on learning opportunities for students. As part of the ceremony, Ajraks and shield presentation was conducted to recognize the efforts and dedication of the organizers of the Free Eye Camp 2026, acknowledging their valuable contributions to community healthcare services. Participants were also informed that the ORIC (Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization) at Isra University offers support for students interested in research projects and publications. Attendees were encouraged to contact the ORIC department for guidance and collaboration opportunities to further strengthen their academic and research profiles.
