The Brunnstrom stages of stroke recovery is a widely recognized framework that outlines the typical progression of muscle control and motor functions after a stroke.

The 7 Stages of Stroke Recovery:
- *Stage 1: Flaccidity* - Muscles are paralyzed, limp, and floppy due to lack of communication between the brain and muscles. Rehabilitation focuses on passive range-of-motion exercises to maintain flexibility.
- *Stage 2: Spasticity Appears* - Spasticity emerges, causing muscle stiffness and involuntary movements. Therapy aims to manage spasticity and promote controlled movements.
- *Stage 3: Increased Spasticity* - Spasticity peaks, making movement challenging. Voluntary movements begin to emerge, and therapy focuses on building on these movements.
- *Stage 4: Decreased Spasticity* - Spasticity decreases, allowing for more coordinated movements outside of muscle synergies. Patients regain control over their muscles and start performing voluntary movements.
- *Stage 5: Complex Movement Combinations* - Patients can perform complex movements combining joint movements, marking significant progress in motor control.
- *Stage 6: Spasticity Disappears* - Spasticity disappears, and coordination improves. Patients can perform most movements with ease, but fine-tuning may be required.
- *Stage 7: Normal Function Returns* - Muscle function returns to near-normal or normal levels, with some patients achieving full recovery.
