Pitted keratolysis is a bacterial infection of the skin, typically affecting the soles of the feet.

Symptoms include small pits or depressions on the surface of the skin, accompanied by a strong odor, and sometimes itching or burning sensations.

It's caused by certain bacteria, such as Corynebacterium and Micrococcus, that thrive in warm, moist environments.

Common treatments include:

- Topical antibiotics
- Antifungal creams
- Good foot hygiene
- Changing socks regularly
- Wearing well-ventilated shoes
