Strengthening Health Systems through Capacity Building
The District Health Office Mirpur, in collaboration with UNICEF and HISP Pakistan, successfully conducted a two-day DHIS2 training at Regency Hotel, Mirpur. The training was organized for three batches of health staff from DHQ, THQ, New City Teaching Hospital, RHCs, BHUs, CDs, and FAPs, enhancing their skills in data management and evidence-based decision-making.
The session was inaugurated by Dr. Fida Hussain Raja (DHO Mirpur), who emphasized the critical role of DHIS2 in improving healthcare delivery.
Certificates were distributed among participants, recognizing their successful completion of this important capacity-building initiative.
This effort marks another step towards strengthening the health information system in District Mirpur and promoting a culture of data-driven decision-making in healthcare.

HISP Pakistan and Pak One Health Alliance (POHA) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at the HISP Pakistan office, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership to advance digital public health and integrated One Health solutions in Pakistan.

Through this collaboration, both organizations will:

๐Ÿ”น Strengthen digital platforms such as DHIS2 for disease surveillance and decision-making

"Advancing Health Systems Through Capacity Building and Data-Driven Action"

HISP Pakistan, in collaboration with the Department of Health Sindh, successfully conducted a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop in Hyderabad from July 30 to August 1, 2025. The training focused on strengthening the capacity of health professionals in data collection, analysis, and reporting using DHIS2 across Primary and Secondary Health Care facilities. Through practical exercises and collaborative learning, participants were empowered to enhance data-driven decision-making and improve health service delivery across Sindh.

In continuation of these efforts, a strategic meeting was held on August 2, 2025, with the District Health Officer (DHO) Hyderabad to review key observations from recent monitoring visits. The session involved a detailed discussion on identified gaps, followed by the development of a comprehensive action plan to align health facility performance with established service delivery standards.

AJK Begins Its DHIS2 Journey!
We are proud to share that District Bhimber, AJK, has officially begun its DHIS2 implementation journey with the commencement of cascade training sessions.

๐Ÿ“ The training was facilitated by HISP Pakistan, aiming to build the capacity of district-level health staff in effectively using the DHIS2 system for improved health data reporting and decision-making.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ We were honored by the visit of the Honorable Director General Health, AJK, who appreciated the initiative and encouraged the participants to fully engage with the training and apply their learning to strengthen the health information system in the region.

The meeting was held on 24th July 2025, organized by the National Health Support Programme (NHSP) and chaired by the Director General Health KP

The session commenced with NHSP presenting their budget and outlining key requirements submitted to the Government. This was followed by a detailed update from the DHIS team on the current status of DHIS2 implementation across the province, including the rollout progress and cascade trainings conducted to date. The DHIS Cell also shared updates regarding the procurement and distribution status of essential stationery and gadgets highlighting both the items arranged and outstanding needs.

HISP Pakistan actively participated in the meeting, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the digital health ecosystem in KP.

We recently had the privilege of conducting a five-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on the Health Management Information System (HMIS) for the Department of Health, Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) at the HISP Pakistan office in Islamabad.

This intensive training aimed to enhance the capacity of participants in key HMIS domains, including metadata configuration, data entry, system setup, and hands-on sessions on data analysis, dashboard development, and visualization. A strong focus was also placed on data quality assurance and outlier detection techniques, crucial for evidence-based decision-making.

We were honored to host Dr. Farooq Ahmed Noor, Director General Health AJK, and Dr. Johar from UNICEF, who joined the opening and closing session and appreciated the collaborative efforts toward strengthening digital health infrastructure in the region.

It was a pleasure to engage with such committed health professionals working to improve healthcare outcomes in AJK. We look forward to seeing the long-term impact of this capacity-building initiative.

A successful 5-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on the DHIS2-based Health Management Information System (HMIS) was held at the HISP Pakistan Head Office in Islamabad, with active participation from district-level health staff of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). The training aimed to enhance the capacity of health teams in managing and utilizing digital health data for improved decision-making.

Participants took part in hands-on sessions covering metadata configuration, mobile and web data entry, dashboards, and reporting functionalities. A key highlight of the training was the introduction and practical orientation on the Nutrition Module, which has been integrated into the GB HMIS.

The KP DHIS Cell, in collaboration with HISP Pakistan and UNICEF, successfully organized the second Provincial Quarterly Review Meeting on DHIS2 to assess the progress of its implementation. The primary objectives of the meeting were to identify and address challenges faced by field staff, enhance data accuracy and reporting compliance, and improve capacity-building initiatives for both health workers and IT staff. Notably, UNICEFโ€™s health information system experts, Dr. Inam and Dr. Imran, actively participated, offering valuable insights into potential DHIS2 system enhancements. This collaborative effort aims to further strengthen the health information management system and ensure the continued success of DHIS2 across the region.

The Health Information Systems Program (HISP), in collaboration with the Directorate General Health Services Sindh, successfully conducted a six-day training workshop for District Umerkot from March 10 to March 15, 2025, at the DGHSS Office in Hyderabad. A total of 94 participants were trained during the workshop.

The primary objective of the training was to build the capacity of healthcare personnel by providing in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with data collection tools and reporting forms designed for Primary Health Care (PHC) and Secondary Health Care (SHC) facilities, utilizing the DHIS-2 platform. This initiative aimed to strengthen participants' competencies in digital data management, thereby promoting more efficient reporting mechanisms and facilitating evidence-based decision-making within the health system of Sindh.

HISP Pakistan participated in the 4th Technical Working Group meeting at the EPI Directorate in Karachi, alongside key partners, including the World Bank, to discuss critical aspects of DHIS-2 implementation in Sindh.
Discussions were structured into two key phases:
๐Ÿ”น Implementation Progress: Review of DHIS-2 rollout, including Training of Trainers (TOT) and trickle-down training sessions conducted across the province.
๐Ÿ”น Strategic Support & Expansion: Addressing the provision of recording tools, equipment, and training to ensure a comprehensive rollout. The idea of establishing a dedicated cost center for DHIS-2 was also introduced to enhance sustainability.
This collaborative effort marks a significant step toward strengthening Sindhโ€™s digital health infrastructure.
