Highlights from the SUPPORT (Surgeons Peer-Led Post-Incident Response Teams) Improvement Collaborative

Shifa Center of Professional Excellence (SCOPE), in collaboration with Orthopedic Department successfully conducted the SUPPORT (Surgeons Peer-Led Post-Incident Response Teams) Improvement Collaborative on 30 December 2025 at the C3 Conference Room, SIHL, Islamabad.

The session focused on addressing the emotional and professional impact of unplanned adverse events on surgeons and healthcare professionals. It emphasized the importance of peer support, wellbeing, and balancing patient care with personal resilience.

The academic session featured expert contributions from Dr. Sohail Yousaf, Consultant Trauma and Orthopedics Surgeon and Training Programme Director (Core Surgery, London), who led an insightful discussion on recognizing surgeon distress, overcoming barriers to seeking help, and promoting peer-led support initiatives within healthcare institutions.
Participants, including consultant surgeons, trainees, nursing staff, and students, actively engaged in discussions and reflected on strategies to foster a supportive and psychologically safe work environment for surgical teams.

The session concluded with closing remarks by Maj. Gen. (R) Dr. Sohail Hafeez, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, who emphasized the importance of collaboration, peer support, and continued learning in enhancing clinical practice and surgeon wellbeing.

Highlights from the CNS Small Vessel Vasculitis & Mimics Session

Shifa Center of Professional Excellence (SCOPE), in collaboration with the Radiology Department, successfully hosted a focused academic session on “MRI in CNS Small Vessel Vasculitis and Mimics” on 8 December 2025 at the F4 Conference Room, Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad.

The session commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Rashed Nazir, Associate Chief of Radiology, followed by a guest lecture delivered by Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, MD, Staff Physician, Diagnostic Radiology, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. He shared expert insights on MRI findings and the multidisciplinary management of CNS small vessel vasculitis and its mimics.

Participants, including residents, radiologists, neurologists, rheumatologists, and physicians, gained valuable knowledge on applying a multidisciplinary approach for accurate diagnosis and improved patient care. Shifa Center of Professional Excellence (SCOPE), in collaboration with the Neurology Department, successfully hosted an expert session on “Transition from Alteplase to Tenecteplase in Acute Ischemic Stroke” on 8 December 2025 at the F4 Conference Room, Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad.

The session commenced with opening remarks by Prof. Arsalan Ahmad, Consultant Neurologist, followed by an insightful lecture from Dr. Ashfaq Shuaib, Professor of Medicine and Neurology and Director, University of Alberta Stroke Program and Stroke Prevention Clinic. Dr. Shuaib discussed the clinical rationale for transitioning from Alteplase to Tenecteplase, patient selection criteria, proper dosing and administration protocols, management of potential complications, and guidance for developing institutional stroke protocols.
