A coordination meeting was held between the IDSR-NIH team and the District Health Officer (DHO) Islamabad. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and strengthen collaborative efforts in dengue prevention and control.

The discussion focused on providing technical support for field surveillance and genomic surveillance of the dengue vector in Islamabad. The IDSRS team offered their expertise in entomological monitoring, identifying high-risk areas, and conducting genomic analysis of vector populations. This support will aid in the early detection of changes in vector behavior and resistance.

The meeting also emphasized enhancing the rapid detection and timely response to dengue fever cases through integrated surveillance systems and coordinated field actions.

Following a formal invitation from the DHO office and approval from the project director of IDSRS, the IDSRS team will regularly visit high-risk Union Councils (UCs) in Islamabad alongside DHO staff to conduct surveillance and monitor anti-dengue activities.

The National Institute of Health (NIH), in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), conducted a visit to the provincial Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Livestock, and Health departments in Quetta, Balochistan, from 16–17 July 2025. The purpose of these meetings was to establish mechanisms and procedures to exchange surveillance information and data integration between the animal and environmental sectors with human health data through DHIS-2. The Livestock Department highlighted its ongoing efforts to share animal health data on six priority zoonotic diseases through DHIS-2. The EPA presented their routine operations and the types of environmental data currently available, and agreed to initiate data sharing through DHIS-2. This step will make Balochistan the first province in Pakistan where human, animal, and environmental health data are integrated into a unified surveillance platform, demonstrating a practical implementation of the One Health approach for zoonotic disease prevention and control. The progress on the implementation of the One Health governance structure was discussed with the Health Department to ensure cross-sectoral coordination and sustainability of the initiative.
