The National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad, along with C19RM, a Global Fund–funded project, successfully organized a Training Workshop on Laboratory Data Integration with PPHL and the IDSR system using DHIS-2. This initiative reflects NIH’s continued commitment to strengthening national disease surveillance and laboratory reporting frameworks.
The workshop brought together participants from identified public health laboratories, including medical doctors, microbiologists, molecular biologists, and laboratory technologists. The aim was to equip them with essential skills for effective data integration, standardized reporting, and alignment with national surveillance systems. Throughout the training, SME laboratory experts from NIH and IDSR delivered comprehensive sessions covering the IDSR laboratory network, good laboratory management practices, specimen handling and transportation, biosafety and biosecurity, and laboratory quality management systems.
A key highlight of the workshop was the hands-on demonstration of DHIS-2 (web and Android application) conducted by the NIH and PPHL technical teams. Participants practiced real-time data entry, validation, and reporting—transforming theoretical concepts into practical, field-ready skills.
This capacity-building initiative represents a significant step toward integrating clinical and public health laboratory reporting, enabling stronger early detection, improved data-driven decision-making, and more timely responses to emerging public health threats and outbreaks.
