World Tuberculosis Day- 24th March 2024
Causes of TB: TB is caused by bacteria known as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which primarily affects the lungs but can also target other parts of the body.
Transmission: TB spreads through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks. Close and prolonged contact with an infected individual increases the risk of transmission.
Prevention: Preventive measures include vaccination (BCG), maintaining good ventilation in living spaces, practicing good respiratory hygiene, and prompt identification and treatment of TB cases to reduce transmission.
Pharmacist's Role: Pharmacists play a crucial role in TB management by providing education on medication adherence, counseling patients on potential side effects, ensuring proper dosage, and collaborating with healthcare providers to monitor treatment progress. They also contribute to public health initiatives by promoting TB awareness and facilitating access to medications and treatment services.
