Who Gets Postpartum Depression?

Postpartum depression can affect any woman — but some may be more at risk for developing it. Women who have had any kind of depression in the past (including postpartum depression) or who have a family history of depression are more likely to get postpartum depression.

Other things that might increase the chance of postpartum depression include serious stress during the pregnancy, medical problems during the pregnancy or after birth, and lack of support at home.

🧕🚫 7 Common Pregnancy Myths in Pakistani Culture — Busted! 🚫🧕

Pregnancy brings lots of advice — but not all of it is true. Let’s break some popular myths (غلط فہمیاں) that many women in Pakistan still hear:

❌ Myth 1 (غلط فہمی): Eating for two is necessary
✅ Fact: You need slightly more calories, not double meals. Overeating can lead to unnecessary weight gain and complications.

❌ Myth 2 (غلط فہمی): A sharp belly means a boy; round means a girl
✅ Fact: Belly shape is based on baby’s position and your body, not gender.

❌ Myth 3 (غلط فہمی): Papaya and pineapple cause miscarriage
✅ Fact: Moderate consumption of ripe fruits is safe. Always consult your doctor before adding anything new.

❌ Myth 4 (غلط فہمی): Don’t take a bath after delivery for 40 days
✅ Fact: Hygiene is crucial for recovery. Warm baths can be healing unless medically advised otherwise.

❌ Myth 5 (غلط فہمی): Exercising can harm the baby
✅ Fact: Light exercise is safe and even beneficial in pregnancy (unless you have complications).

❌ Myth 6 (غلط فہمی): Heartburn means baby will have more hair
✅ Fact: No scientific link. Heartburn is due to hormonal and digestive changes.

❌ Myth 7 (غلط فہمی): Ultrasounds are harmful for the baby
✅ Fact: Ultrasounds are safe and essential to monitor baby’s health and development.

📌 Always follow advice from your doctor — not old wives’ tales. Your health and your baby’s well-being come first.

🚨 Breaking the Myths About Contraceptives in Pakistani Culture 🚨
In Pakistani culture, contraceptives (کنٹراسٹیپٹوز) are often misunderstood, leading to confusion and fear. Today, let’s clear the air about some of the most common myths:

🛑 Myth 1: Contraceptives affect your health badly.
Reality:
Most birth control methods are safe when used correctly. Side effects like headaches or slight weight gain are temporary and can be managed. Always consult your doctor (ڈاکٹر) for advice.

🛑 Myth 2: Contraceptives cause infertility.
Reality:
Contraceptives do not affect long-term fertility. Once you stop using them, your fertility returns to normal. Family planning is about spacing pregnancies — not preventing future ones.

🛑 Myth 3: Contraceptives are only for women.
Reality:
There are male contraceptive options too, like condoms (کنڈوم) and vasectomy. Family planning is a shared responsibility.

🛑 Myth 4: IUDs are dangerous and painful.
Reality:
The IUD (intrauterine device) is a safe, long-term, and effective method for many women. It’s generally pain-free after insertion and can last for years.

Contraceptives do not affect long-term fertility. Once you stop using them, your fertility returns to normal. Family planning is about spacing pregnancies, not preventing future ones.
Reality:
Some methods may cause slight weight changes, but it’s not guaranteed. Focus on a healthy diet and exercise for balanced weight management.

👩‍⚕️ Dr. Sajida Guftaar says:
Understanding birth control options can empower you to make the best decisions for your health and family planning. Consult your doctor (ڈاکٹر) to find the right choice for you.

🌟 Family planning = Healthy families = Happy futures.

🩹🤱 Caring for Stitches After Delivery (Normal or C-Section)

Whether you had a C-section (سی سیکشن) or a normal delivery (نارمل ڈلیوری) with stitches — healing right is just as important as the birth itself.

🟢 Stitches After Normal Delivery (Perineal)
🔸 Keep clean & dry: Gently wash with warm water after using the toilet.
🔸 Use a spray bottle: Avoid direct rubbing.
🔸 Sitz bath: Sitting in warm water for 10–15 min eases pain and speeds healing.
🔸 Cotton pads & loose clothes: Help prevent infection and irritation.

🔵 Stitches After C-Section
🔸 Keep dressing dry: Follow hospital instructions for changing or removing it.
🔸 Avoid lifting: For 4–6 weeks, don’t lift anything heavier than your baby.
🔸 Gentle walking: Aids blood flow and healing.
🔸 Watch for signs of infection (انفیکشن):
- Redness
- Swelling
- Discharge or fever

📞 If any of these appear, contact your doctor immediately.

👩‍⚕️ Dr. Sajida Guftaar says:
Don’t rush your recovery. Your body needs care too. Healing properly now avoids problems later.

🌸 You took care of your baby… now let’s take care of you.

💪🧘‍♀️ Pelvic Floor Exercises After Delivery

After childbirth, many women experience leakage, back pain, or a feeling of heaviness "down there". That’s your pelvic floor (پیلوک فلور) asking for help!

Let’s strengthen it — safely and naturally.

🤔 What Is the Pelvic Floor?
It’s a group of muscles that support your bladder, uterus, and bowel.
These muscles can weaken during pregnancy and delivery — especially after normal or assisted delivery.

⚠️ Why Strengthen It?
✅ Prevent urine leakage (incontinence)
✅ Reduce back and pelvic pain
✅ Improve recovery after delivery
✅ Support future pregnancies
✅ Enhance intimate well-being

🏋️‍♀️ Simple Exercise: Kegels
Tighten the muscles you use to stop urinating.

Hold for 5 seconds.

Relax for 5 seconds.

Repeat 10 times, 3 times a day.

💡 Start lying down if standing is hard. Gradually increase hold time.

👩‍⚕️ Dr. Sajida Guftaar recommends:
Begin 2–3 weeks after delivery, or as advised by your doctor (ڈاکٹر). Consistency matters more than intensity.

💗 Your healing doesn’t stop after delivery. A strong foundation helps you feel confident again.

👶➡️💪 Post-Baby Weight Loss: Natural & Safe Ways

New moms often ask: "How can I lose weight after delivery — safely?"
Remember, your body grew a life — be gentle, not rushed.

🍽️ 1. Focus on Nourishment, Not Starvation
Eat balanced meals (متوازن غذا) rich in fruits, vegetables, protein & healthy fats.
👉 Crash diets are not safe during recovery or while breastfeeding.

💧 2. Stay Hydrated
Water boosts metabolism and helps with milk production.
Tip: Keep a bottle nearby during baby’s feeding times.

🏃‍♀️ 3. Light Exercise – When Ready
Start with short walks, deep breathing, or doctor-approved postnatal workouts.
🧘‍♀️ Even 10 minutes daily makes a difference.

💤 4. Sleep Is Your Secret Weapon
Yes, it’s tough — but nap when baby naps.
Lack of sleep disrupts hormones and increases weight retention.

🫶 5. Be Kind to Yourself
Don’t compare yourself to others — not even social media moms.
Every recovery journey is different.

👩‍⚕️ Dr. Sajida Guftaar says:
Safe weight loss starts after 6 weeks postpartum or once your body feels ready.
Never hesitate to consult your doctor (ڈاکٹر) for a customized plan.

🎯 Glow slowly — you’re not just losing weight, you’re regaining strength.

🤰⚖️ C-Section vs. Normal Delivery – What You Should Know

Expecting moms often face this big question: Cesarean (C-Section) delivery or Normal (Vaginal) delivery? Let’s understand both options — without fear or pressure.

🟢 Normal Delivery (نارمل ڈلیوری):
Pros:
✅ Faster recovery
✅ Lower risk of complications in future pregnancies
✅ Shorter hospital stay
✅ Early bonding with baby

Cons:
🔸 Can be painful
🔸 May need stitches or assistance (forceps, vacuum)
🔸 Not always possible in complicated cases

🔵 C-Section (سی سیکشن):
Pros:
✅ Life-saving in emergencies
✅ Planned delivery in medical cases
✅ No labor pain

Cons:
🔸 Longer recovery
🔸 Surgery risks (infection, anesthesia effects)
🔸 Future pregnancy risks (uterine rupture, placenta issues)

❓ So, What’s Best?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. A normal delivery is preferred when conditions are safe. A C-section becomes necessary when the baby or mother’s health is at risk.

🩺 Final Word from Dr. Sajida Guftaar:
Every pregnancy is unique. Always consult your doctor (ڈاکٹر) to decide the safest option for you and your baby.

🤱 Your birth experience matters — let it be informed, supported, and safe.

Let’s break the silence.

💡 What Causes PPD?
Hormonal changes

If symptoms last more than 2 weeks or interfere with daily life, talk to your doctor (ڈاکٹر) immediately. Support is available — you are not alone.

PPD is treatable through counseling, support groups, and sometimes medication.

📞 Talk to someone. Reach out to a professional. Healing starts with one step.

👶💓 Tracking Baby Kicks: When and How? 💓👶

Feeling your baby move is one of the most exciting parts of pregnancy! It’s also a gentle sign that your baby (بچہ) is growing and healthy.

📅 When Should You Start Feeling Kicks?
Most women start feeling flutters between 18–24 weeks of pregnancy. First-time mothers may feel them a little later.

🕰️ Why Tracking Kicks Matters?
Counting kicks helps monitor your baby’s well-being in the third trimester. A noticeable drop in movement can be a warning sign and should be discussed with your doctor.

✅ How to Track Kicks:
1. Choose a Time ⏱️
Pick a time when your baby is usually active—often after meals or at night.

2. Get Comfortable 🛋️
Sit or lie on your left side in a quiet place. Focus only on baby movements.

3. Count the Kicks ✅
Note the time it takes to feel 10 movements (kicks, flutters, rolls). It should usually take less than 2 hours.

4. Record Daily 📒
Use a notebook or app to record daily kick counts.

⚠️ When to Call the Doctor:
If your baby moves less than usual

If it takes more than 2 hours to count 10 kicks

If movements stop suddenly

💡 Trust your instincts. If you feel something isn't right, always consult your doctor. Baby’s movements are one of the earliest ways they "talk" to you.
