"The past 8 years at Shifa have been life changing. My time here has been memorable because of friends like Dr. Umar, who stood by me, and Dr. Abdus Salam, my supervisor, who showed me what it truly means to be a physician. Growing up, my elder brothers, both doctors, would share experiences from their night shifts, and those experiences fascinated me. The idea of being at work in the oddest hours, doing your best to relieve human suffering, felt like the noblest thing, and that inspiration led me to medicine. I still remember an eleven-year-old boy who had a ring stuck on his finger, when me and my team finally cut it off, he hugged me and said: ‘Dr. Saab, I love you.’ That remains one of the best moments of my career.“

I chose Clinical Hematology because it gives you something rare in medicine, the chance to walk with patients through their toughest days, from diagnosis to recovery. I once had a leukemia patient say, ‘I don’t fear the disease as long as I see you smile during rounds'. That moment stayed with me. It reminded me that sometimes, your presence matters just as much as your prescription.
It’s not an easy field, but it teaches you resilience and how healing goes far beyond just treatment.”
