Our healthcare system depends on 38,000 trainee doctors. Female doctors are already hesitant to work in remote areas, and incidents like the one in Kohat make this worse. Fewer training slots, doctor shortages, and brain drain are pushing the system toward a serious crisis.

03/03/2026

Over 35% of female doctors are leaving the profession due to worsening and unsafe working conditions. What was once limited to harassment has now escalated to murder, making it increasingly difficult for female doctors to continue their practice.

PIMA has demanded that the killers of Dr. Mehwish Hasnain be tried in an anti-terrorism court and awarded exemplary punishment, stressing that justice must be swift and uncompromising to deter violence against medical professionals.

Low salaries and the lack of a proper service structure for doctors, especially postgraduate trainees, are serious issues. This time, 800 seats remained vacant, and compromising on merit will bring incompetent individuals into the system.

Violence, humiliation, and unsafe working conditions are driving many doctors to leave the country.
