Strengthening biodiversity action in 🌱

With support from Global Environment Facility and in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change, Govt of Pakistan, convened a National Validation Workshop to support the finalization of Pakistan’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 2025–2030 and the 7th National Report (7NR), aligned with the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

The workshop brought together federal and provincial governments, academia, and local communities to refine the NBSAP and validate inputs to the 7NR, ensuring inclusive, evidence-based planning.

🌿 Empowering Women for a Climate-Resilient Future

, in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change, Govt of Pakistan, held a Focus Group Discussion in Lahore under the Institutional Strengthening for the project, focusing on the Kigali Amendment and gender mainstreaming in Montreal Protocol implementation.

Led by Dr. Saleem Janjua, National Project Manager , the discussion brought together subject experts and youth to highlight Pakistan’s priorities for climate-resilient and inclusive action.

and Ministry of Climate Change, Govt of Pakistan convened a Focus Group Discussion on the and gender mainstreaming under the Montreal Protocol — supporting hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) phase-down in the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector following Kigali Amendment ratification in Oct 2025 by Pakistan.

Highlights from the discussion:

👩‍ Gender-responsive implementation across Montreal Protocol sectors
🤝 Multi-stakeholder coordination & capacity building

Full implementation of the Kigali Amendment could help avoid up to 0.4°C of global warming, while protecting the ozone layer.

Strengthening finance in Pakistan 🌿

Through the Global Umbrella Programme of the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), , in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change, Govt of Pakistan and with support from Global Environment Facility, is strengthening how biodiversity is planned, financed, and managed across Pakistan.

The BIOFIN launch highlighted progress on key assessments and explored innovative financing solutions, while underscoring the role of youth, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, and gender-responsive approaches. Through the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, is advancing inclusive biodiversity governance that safeguards livelihoods and vulnerable ecosystems. 🌍💚

, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 🇵🇰 and Japan - The Government of Japan 🇯🇵 have officially launched a joint initiative to strengthen local governance and enhance service delivery across the of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Supporting 19 Tehsil Local Governments, the initiative combines community-prioritized infrastructure with institutional capacity building, including sustainable operations and maintenance, to improve service delivery, resilience, and inclusive development across the region.

Together, we’re strengthening local governance to deliver for communities where it matters most. 🤝

With support from the European Union in Pakistan🇪🇺 and in collaboration with the Election Commission Of Pakistan, , through the PLEDGE project, convened its first provincial consultation in Peshawar to support the review of election rules and advance gender equality and social inclusion in electoral processes.

The consultation brought together parliamentarians, government institutions, the Election Commission of Pakistan, civil society, academia, and media to identify pathways for strengthening the participation of women, youth, minorities, and persons with disabilities – towards more inclusive and representative electoral frameworks across Pakistan.
